Leicester women have really improved! That was a close game, losing to a great goal by arsenal, and to be honest I thought the referee and commentators were bias towards arsenal (or maybe thats just me!). If Leicester had played like this from the start of the season I reckon we'd be up there and not fighting relegation at all!

Unlucky, just not enough quality up front GK was excellent!

Thought our ladies were unlucky.  Probably having our best spell in the game when they scored. Also thought we should have had a penalty just before their goal, when their keeper took cain out. Massive improvement in the team though, and Ruby Mace looks a player.

Referee was very one sided. Challenges from Arsenal that she was letting go, she was pulling us up on. Commentators were same as in the men's game, only really interested in what the "big" team were doing.

Reminder whilst this thread is getting some activity, if you’re a STH/Member for the men’s side you can claim a free ticket to the Women’s last home game against West Ham on the 21st May

And so predictable as soon as the men’s PL took over the women’s game should have stayed independent and grown organically

Premier league clubs have had women’s teams associated with them for decades, it’s not new. Unfortunately they’ve faced prejudice, ridicule, and ignorance along the way. Glazers disbanded man u wfc in 2005, way before that the fa banned women’s football as it was growing and attracting big crowds. While what’s happened to teams like Doncaster belles is sad the money now coming into the game has secured it and is allowing talent to flourish. To let it grow organically would still have womens football struggling to survive, the many thousands of girls playing for the thousands of girls teams that have exploded over the last few years wouldn’t be playing at all or would still be facing the out dated attitude that “girls can’t play football”. Many of the girls are better than boys now and the standard of women’s football will improve year on year at those clubs that wish to invest in its talented kids. Unfortunately it seems like Leicester isn’t one of them after it’s latest move to close the academy but elsewhere it will thrive.

In many ways that was better than the Liverpool game because of the level of the opposition involved.

Knocked it around with confidence, pressed them high, great performances from Leitzig, Mace, Howard and Cain. Hopefully Hannah's knee is okay, she seemed to indicate to the physio it was swelling up and the last thing she needs is another spell on the sidelines.

It’s not shutting, it’s changing quite a bit, the new FA license has teams focusing on two age groups (down to clubs to decide) we’ve gone for U16 (14, 15, 16 year olds) and U21. The 8-14 setup is being converted to an ETC, like the RTC that closed the other year, with individual age groups. They’re currently advertising for about 20 academy roles.

It’s slight of hand by the fa and clubs, Leicester aren’t the only one doing it. While everyone is looking at the new format no one is looking at them shutting the rest of the academy. 8 to 14 are being sent out to girls grass roots football, they’ve been playing in the mjpl for years and will destroy grass roots football. Winning 15 - 0 every week isn’t going to progress anyone, they need competitive football. They’ll be playing in teams where the girls aren’t on their level ability or attitude wise and the coaching won’t be as good as what they’re receiving now, if you’ve seen the standard of football these girls are playing it’s not going to happen in girls grass roots, far from it. Also what about the girls that will be pushed out of these sister clubs, will there bitterness created there. There’s a lot of these girls who have no desire to play girls grass roots.

Yes they can attend the ETC on Saturday mornings which then stops them playing in the higher standard boys leagues and the ETC only play matches during half terms, what’s that every six or so weeks. It’ll be interesting to see how many of the better girls actually bother with the ETC choosing to play Saturday football instead.

Surely quality coaching and testing the girls at the highest possible standard is the way forward to producing the best female footballers not sending them back to leagues they’d outgrown. other clubs like man city, aresnal, villa etc realise the value of this and are keeping their academies,  these are the teams that will attract the best talent until other clubs realise this and eventually do an about turn, and teams like Leicester are paying compensation to teams to get the players in that they could have had for free coming through their own academies.

It’s no slight on girls grass roots or their coaches (I’m one) but they can’t provide what these girls need despite they fantastic job they’re doing at progressing the girls game at that level.

Look at it another way, what do you think would happen if the club announced it was shutting the boys academy down up-to u16 and was sending all the other teams back to Sunday league football and to train once a week at seagrave on Saturday mornings?

They’d be outrage.

I guess it depends on what you'd like to ultimately see if you want a clone of the men's PL where 6 teams continue to dominate, win and accumulate the majority of the money coming into the women's game then yeah the current approach is perfect. It's not something I wish to see or will have any real interest in as I'm struggling to maintain my current interest in the men's PL the way it's structured.

Assuming that result holds then a Reading loss away to Spurs on the 20th makes our home game against West Ham the next day win & stay up (if we don’t beat Chelsea first 😂)

Reading getting pasted by Villa unsurprisingly.

With Reading last 2 games being at a "not already safe" Tottenham, and Chelsea, our ladies may very well already be safe. Let's hope so, they've improved enormously in recent weeks.

That Spurs game is the one they’ve just move to the main stadium right after the men play so should be a big crowd too

Its on Sky Showcase if anyone wants to watch it

Not interested, the games I watch are against teams not fighting for the title who are on the same competitive level, but those high up teams are the games sky want to show for some reason.
