We do seem to have gone "save", in where we look to recruit, and to an extent the club looking for proven quality to push us forward, is not a bad thing. Watching a Brennan Johnson tearing down the wing and Spence in close attendance makes you want to see the emergence of young talent performing for your team. I have no idea how the Ebiowei situation unfolded in regards to our dealings with Derby, but to have lost out, for a player, in that position, either means we saw something and down the line the scouts will be proven right, or we no longer know what we are doing, and the changes we are implementing in the backroom, no longer seeks to fit the original remit. 2

We never really try and scoop up talent from midlands clubs which given we have found ourselves as the best team in the Midlands for 5-6 years for the first time in a long while, if ever it seems a missed opportunity. Are we too respectful? It's hardly like the actions of others with their players have been illegal, its just the nature of the beast. Meanwhile Villa have taken all and sundry in recent years and transformed their academy from being in the doldrums to winning the FA Youth Cup in 2020/21. They have so many promising players coming through from the likes of Stoke, Northampton, Peterborough, West Brom and not just who came up through the U8's with them.
Sly Posted 24 June 2022 Posted 24 June 2022 A few that might be worth a look, that are in a similar situation to Tielemans / Soyuncu. Thomas Lemar, can’t agree a deal with Athletico and he hasn’t really kicked on with them. Available for £20m apparently. Tsygankov is another one, that we should look at. Kiev won’t be playing football any time soon I’d imagine unfortunately, so maybe a deal can be done. Even as a loan etc. Houssem Aouar, with the links to Arsenal going cool, he’d make the ideal Tielemans replacement. Alex Oxlaide Chamberlin, he hasn’t ever really broken into the team at Liverpool or Arsenal. He needs to be playing and has an outside chance of making the World Cup squad if he was playing. Recently training with Maddison and could be a sensible option for us, being able to cover both the right and centre mid. Soler, Guillaman and Gayá’s contracts are all up at Valencia in the next 12 months; however I can see them going to Barcelona. 1

Is it 30 miles? We do seem to like a certain profile of player, rather than sweeping up all of the talent.

I'm not 100% sure on the rules and at what age groups but certainly scholar upwards we ought to be able to sign players from ANY Midlands club. 1
mozartfox Posted 25 June 2022 Posted 25 June 2022 Do the Recruitment Squadron work at weekends? If not, I can log off until Monday morning.

Chrysalis Posted 25 June 2022 Posted 25 June 2022 For a supposed rehaul of the squad, there seems to be no urgency. 4

Pathetic really what's Martyn Glover going to do... coming into his new office in Leicester the day after the transfer window closes and we don't generally sign players in January. 1

We still need to fcuk a load of players off though. But let's say we don't get rid of any I reckon we've still £20-30m for a RW and get a LCB in on loan. 1

mozartfox Posted 1 July 2022 Posted 1 July 2022 Great job so far, not one single duff signing and removal of the third choice 37 YO keeper. 1 1
Pliskin Posted 2 July 2022 Posted 2 July 2022 I imagine this is how the recruitment teams meetings go. 4
