Potentially but you could say the same about having team leads in any work place. If youve got a good one who pushes you to do well it does make an impact though and the same for when you have a bad one.

Its a big factor in the squad harmony and setting standards... not necessarily for suddenly changing performances on the pitch but definitely effecting the happiness of the day to day lives of the squad. The ideal captain just bridges the gap between the manager and the players which is why I dont see vardy being that guy.

Except a captain isn’t a team leader, they have zero of the responsibility neither is it an actual role to manage others workloads. It’s a ceremonial role. A good leader is a good leader regardless. De Bruyne still pushed others to do well when Kompany was captain. Football fans put way too much stock in the captaincy in England.

Hey All,

Im just curious who everyone thinks would be next in line for captain if we were to lose Kasper and Youri this summer.

Do we think Vardy will be the natural option? He obviously leads by example but im not sure hes the motivator in communication. Albrighton seems like hed be a great captain but with limited minutes it might not be the right choice again.

Personally my guess would be Johnny Evans would be given it, but again as its time limited is this the best call?

Think what you want of the guy but I wouldnt be opposed to Madderz being the next in line. He was part of the leadership group... a hugely popular figure in the team and I think someone who would flourish with the responsibility.

He had a tough few years, made some bad calls but he's grown imo. I think youd see a similar raising of the game as you got with Grealish. Someone who also made a lot of bad decisions but you cant fault how he led villa.  You never know, the armband could convince him to sign a new deal. Im sure hes always dreamed of being the player to lift a trophy

Some will find this strange, but I'd give it to Maddison.

Interesting to see some of the comments on here.

Evans might be a good club captain, similar to how Wes was in his last couple of years, but he won't play week in week out.

I'm surprised nobody has said Ndidi. I think it might bring more out in Wilf, he's the link between defence and midfield, experienced at the club, still young and a guaranteed starter.

Just my opinion.

...you would  say a captain seeks to implement the instructions of the manager!!!

He assesses the game and look to give feedback to the manager and even has the power to take decisions for the team even if it is not how the manager sees the game in that moment.

The really good teams have numerous leaders within the team, it makes the captain's role easier, but at times decisions needed to be taken and it comes down to him to have the final say.

Just looking at Grealish at Villa,  he carried the team and dictated how the game was being played and liaised with his manager where someone was not pulling his wait and was involved in bringing on replacements.

Maddison has finally got his head right, but is way behind in regards to maturity (on the pitch) at least.

Pretty sure it currently goes Kasper -> Evans -> Sharky -> Youri -> Vardy at the minute, after that it gets a bit blurry

Madders, new contract and captains armband. Do whatever we can to make him the next Vardy in terms of importance and duration at the club

He will never reach that. Too much baggage.

I must have missed this, what did he do? Or do you mean because he used to play for Coventry?

Wearing the Derby shirt

The Cov support aspect

The ill judged photo shoots.

That being said since becoming a Dad he does seemed to have grown up.

I don’t think any of that will stop him from wearing the armband. He appears to really grown every season and like you said since becoming a dad he has matured further.

He wouldn’t be my choice as captain, but I can see why others would suggest him and I don’t think he’d be the worst option.

I think you’re perhaps thinking a little too harshly.

Dewsbury-Hall

If he had another year as a fully fledged PL player I'd fully agree.

I'm with madders although he doesn't work as a bridging gap to KDH and it'd no doubt upset madders next seaon. So I'd give it to vardy this season and KDH from next year onwards, with vardy no doubt understanding why and having his swan song.

I agree. This is extremely important. If a player is a lifelong Forest fan and plays over 400 games for Forest for example, there’s zero chance they should be allowed to go on to become one of Leicester’s greatest ever captains and greatest ever players. It just can’t be allowed to happen.

One is a tart with it. The other is not.

Thankfully majority of us can leave stuff in the past. Including the club.
