Rudder’s pigeon is piling on the timber due to lack of activity this window.

Barnes, Maddison and Fofana are the 3 that should be completely off limits. Maybe even Wilf, although I can see him moving on soon

I’d add KDH over Wilf personally

God I completely forgot about KDH! lol

But I think we've got him for a good few years anyway

If we have to sell key assets because we can't shift squad players due to high wages, the well run club notion has to be changed.

Yes it does. A well run club does not run itself into this sort of dead end.  EVERY other Premier League club is buying. We are not.

I’d sooner us keep him and not sign anyone this summer.

As others have said he’s one of a small group of players who should not be sold at any cost.

Yeah I agree. Originally I was frustrated about lack of transfer business but the more I think about it its probably for the best. Give Rodgers this season with hopefully a fully fit squad and see what he can do with it. If he underperforms then give the next manager a budget for the rebuild if we have the money. We'll only go backwards selling the likes of Barnes

Newcastle aren't going to pay what we would want for him (which certainly wouldn't be £50m, and they wouldn't pay that either)

Sounds like it might just be rumours to try and put pressure on other moves they are making anyway

"The fee is up there with what Everton will need for Gordon who has been a Newcastle target for weeks. But the clubs are well apart on the fee as the Toon are only in at £25 million.

Gordon’s camp are still trying to make the move happen and working overtime to find a figure that suits neatly for both sides.

Newcastle have also had to look at Jack Harrison as Leeds as an alternative. He could be sold for less than the other two options and they may opt for that."

The problem I have is I dont have confidence he would be adequately replaced, we could sell him for maybe 50M, buy a CB as we always do and and have a million CB's now, extend some contracts, and then get a panic buy/loan to replace him last week of window.  Typical LCFC style.

Going into the season with no wingers would be insane.

Yeah this would be one of those transfers where we surely would demand a fee far higher than his market price. His value is only going to increase imo

It’s no good saying he “isn’t worth more than £50m”. The fact is he’s worth more than that to us, and we set the price, so there isn’t a discussion to be had.

For what it’s worth I think he’s integral to our team, and I love seeing a homegrown boy tearing it up in the PL.

This and if wages and squad size are the issue not actial finds for transfers, we should keep hold of the cash and accept the rebuild is gonna happen in 12 months time when several players have walked for nothing.

All depends doesn’t it.

If we see more of the rampaging, incisive Barnes and not the ‘you don’t even knows he’s on the pitch’ Barnes then your’e probs correct.

But look back through the match threads of last season. There were more of the latter for good periods of time. He even got dropped a few times.

As usual, just being honest.

If Barnes leaves, we are guaranteed to be weaker in that position. The same can be said of Maddison and Fofana. Selling any of them weakens us.

That’s how to look at it for sure

Of course it’s worth saying.

IF we are looking to sell, a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
Look at the table I put up earlier. There were real class players on it like Gravenberch who Bayern have got for an absolute steal.

Of course, if Barnes isn’t for sale, its all academic

I'll never use Foxestalk match threads as a good indicator of player value Col  lol

I get your point but there's absolutely no chance of us getting anything close to Barnes for that kind of money.

Personally I'd be gutted if he was sold.

1) Local lad

2) Just about makes our boring possession football worth the wait for his bursting runs.

The reality is paying punters need entertainment and he gives us this.

Christ, we havent replaced the last great winger we had for 5 years. How long would it take to replace Barnes if we sold him lol

Feels like he is going to have a great season.

Even in his quiet games you notice how much he stretches a game compared to when he's not playing. He's improved on his end product but we all know there's room for him to improve further. If he did he'd be virtually unplayable

Said the same mate. One of the very few exciting players we have

We don't need money. We need squad space. There is no need to sell starting players for cash, unless they are pushing for a move.

We need squad space for better players: Selling Barnes, and having to replace him, solves exactly 0 issues.
