I guess that the public announcements that we have to sell to buy is likely to bring enquiries for players we don’t want to sell.
that’s unsettling for those players

It seems the clamour for information has some unintended consequences

I presume the club will inform the agents of these players that they will not be sold and the status quo is a better option than selling a player the club considers to be integral to its future

However, behind the scenes, every player has their price and feelers would go out to see what value is attainable. That no doubt drives stories like the Nixon one.

His 10 assists from last season is the most misleading stat. Ryan Fraser once had 7 goals and 14 assists. does not tell you much.

This season is pretty much most importtan for him, because soon he will be 25 and thats the right time to establish himself as a solid winger, not just for loyal leicester fans.

anyway we have only 1 winger and i dont really trust the club they will bring enough quality.

I’m not his biggest fan I’ve got to admit. He’s a one trick pony and last season Lookman was better on the left most of the time. When Harvey’s on it he’s very good but he’s not consistent enough for me. Like some people have said in here tho be careful because you know what BR is like and his replacement would be probably be a downgrade.

Lookman certainly wasn't an improvement! I felt Lookman offered something else when we weren't pressing hard and sitting back more, but i expect us to be more positive and direct this season.

Barnes suffers from the issue that fans expect him to blast past defenders every time, for every cross to land pinpoint at Vardy's feet, and for every shot on goal to be perfect. I can't remember the game towards the end of the season, but early on he was tackled and everyone around us just groaned. Later on he played a perfect ball to Vardy for a goal.

Barnes is exceptional, and his stats prove it. If we can nail the attacking highpress game this year, he is going to be frighting.

Newcastle can suck an old one. No way would I want any player going there!

Not that I have a very strong view on Newcastle at all.

Anyway, thought they were going to sign Messi/Ronaldo?

Harvey Barnes in 2022 has been largely excellent. He'll always frustrate but his goals and assists this calendar year are back to his pre injury form there or thereabouts.

Be careful what you wish for.

Unless BR is going for his 352 again I doubt we would sell anyways. For me he’s bang average but opinions arseholes and that.

Hope not, Rodgers doesn't quite get that system right IMO.

We have aspirations of being in Europe next season and are trying to offload Hamza. We aren't going to sell a club-grown goal machine for 50 million.

We got that much for Chlilly, who was pushing for a move. I doubt Barnes is itching to play for Newcastle.

There is definitely a perception problem with Barnes. He gets nowhere near the respect he deserves from our fans let alone anybody else. I’m sure it doesn’t help that he looks like a rugby league player - he doesn’t play football with any particular grace (albeit he’s scored a few very nice goals) but the stats speak for themselves - he is a very effective wide forward at this level.

Comparing him to a couple of recent transfers at £50m, last 3 seasons in the PL:

Richarlison 30 goals, 11 assists in 100 games (0.43 g/a p90)

Jesus 31 goals, 21 assists in 91 games (0.78 g/a p90)

Barnes 21 goals, 22 assists in 93 games (0.63 g/a p90)

Richarlison has scored 4 penalties in that total and Jesus 2 (Barnes 0).

All roughly the same age but Barnes is the youngest by about 6 months. Jesus was in the last year of his contract.

Over the last 3 years Barnes has only got 2 goals/assists fewer than Maddison who everybody seems to agree would fetch at least £75m if he was sold today (and Barnes is a year younger).

The best post I’ve seen since @StriderHiryupre-season analysis.

We’re a very odd bunch at times…we seem to be over critical of OUR academy players.

Look how much slack Justin has had since returning from injury compared to Harvey?

Controversial comment - Obviously they’re different positions BUT Barnes has a much higher ceiling than Justin in their respective positions.

Barnes is exceptional.

You put him in Liverpool’s team or Man City’s team and he would walk into the England set up. He’s an absolute power house, and when we play with momentum he is unstoppable.

To call him a one trick pony is a bit daft, he is a player who has a unique ability, not one that you see in players all that often. The issue is when we play slowly with no pace or aggression in our game, it really impacts on Barnes’ game. We need to start focusing on players like Barnes and playing a style of play that brings the best out of them. On his day Barnes is one of the best wingers in the league.

I was out with a United fan yesterday (a proper one) and he said Barnes is the only player he would take from our side.

I’ve got a feeling Barnes is going to be incredible this season.

Totally agree.

Look how much better we are when Vardy/Barnes are in the starting 11 and firing.

Their attributes RAISE the other players if you ask me, Youri is a prime example of this….when he has movement in front of him he is our own Pirlo with those delightful reverse/through balls.

Last season that statue/possession football really hurt all our players (could say bar Madders).

You guys look through this transfer list and realistically tell me we could get 70 million for Barnes at present.
50 mill would be good business on our part. That’s possibly a bit more realistic, though I still think that’s on the generous side.

You think Barnes could sell for a higher fee than that achieved for Darwin Nunez or DeLigt?

Roy Keane.. you’re living in cuckoo land

Transfer fees are a very simplistic way of looking at things though, Maguire went for 80 odd. Not saying we'd get 70 for Barnes by the way.

We are like a wounded animal, the scavengers aren't bothering with the the offal, they are going for the juicy cuts of meat.

Another day passes and today’s name is Barnes (yesterday Thomas)  I love this supposed strategy. The Club cannot get rid of any dead-wood, so sell one of the players that has value. This will help us push on for sure.

When this window debacle is over, I hope the recruitment Team are assessed on their recent performances.  I am now thinking that Congerton left us rather quickly as he was the major factor behind the Great Hampshire Sting?  Summer 2021 has royally fuched this Club.

We don't need to sell Barnes; we don't need money, we need to shift deadweight and possibly a couple of wantaways. Selling Barnes (or Maddison) doesn't shift the dross and just creates problems to fill.

In other words: We need to replace crap with quality, not replace quality with cash.

They’d have to pay massively over the odds for this to happen

Which despite their newfound wealth they aren't that keen to do, Wood buyout aside.

Can't think of many wingers that score and assist as many as he does at this level that would be available for under £25m.

Cornets about the only one. Although would no way sell Barnes
