If we sell Barnes or any of our decent players then some serious questions need to be asked as to what is going on at our club.

yes I understand we need to sell before we buy but I’d rather not buy anyone then loose our better players.

I absolutely agree. If we can't get rid of our lesser players this time round, one way or another they'll be gone next summer and certain wage obligations off the books anyway most of them.

In the meantime, with everyone fit and even without any new signings, we've got ample talent in our squad, if used properly, to make a really good fist of the forthcoming season. If we don't then I'm afraid you can only look at the manager. Top 4 is not really achievable and top 6 remote but with a bit of guile and a lot of fight, top 10 should be reasonably expected with a manager showing a bit of ambition.

A choice from Vardy, Barnes, Iheanacho and Daka is far better than most of our competition as is a defence with Evans, Fofana, Ricardo, Castagne, Soyuncu, JJ and Thomas to choose from! Even without the much needed right sided midfielder/winger, we've still got a very ample squad of players.

To sell any of our best assets like Barnes, Fofana, Vardy, KDH etc could only signal a downward spiral because we really don't need to do it.  We certainly don't want to do it to allow Rodgers loose in the transfer market which would be a recipe for disaster.

I don’t want to sell Barnes. As others have said it’d send out completely the wrong message to the rest of the squad.

BUT… we CANT get rid of the fringe players, which brings us right back to the start of most the arguments this summer.

It’s one thing to say we must offload the deadwood… doing it is the difficult part!

We have crap players on big money that either no-one wants or their wages are too high.
That gives us no choice, if we DO want to make changes this summer, than to think about selling players that other clubs are interested in.

Of all of these, I’d look to offload Iheanacho. We paid a good sum of money for him, he’s not pulled up any trees, Daka and Vardy are above him in the pecking order and we might recoup what we paid.

Barnes or Maddison… no way! They are the future of the club

Previously I've mentioned that I was pretty worried about us stagnating and going backwards if we don't make any signings.

However, I've come round a bit since the pre-season games started as the players look really hungry. Even the fringe players and those linked with moves away have looked good (e.g. Soumare, Praet, Tielemans).

I don't want to get too carried away because we can't avoid injuries all season but our squad could quite easily be a lot stronger this season than last season if the three above stay and we can keep Ricardo, Castagne, Justin, Fofana and Vardy fit and fresh for the majority of the season with fewer games to play and some promising young players to give game time in the cups.

So, generally I'm no longer overly concerned if we don't make a signing and don't sell anyone. However, I would still like us to bring in a RW and CB and move on Choudhury, Mendy, Vestergaard and Bertrand if at all possible. I still think Albrighton, Perez, Soumare and Praet can be really useful squad members.

Close the thread - same as Maddison , Fofana and Vardy - no chance they go anywhere - zero - tabloid nonsense - another year of superb numbers for Harvey - even though we all know he isn’t the finished article his numbers are ridiculous for a lad who can only sidefoot the ball 😂😂- still love him though

This perfectly sums up how I have come around to thinking.  Other than I'd like to get shot of Perez as well.

Perhaps it's just a make do and mend philosophy and I'm just trying to persuade myself it'll all be okay but I reckon we'll be fine.  It's down to Rodgers to get the best out of what he's got and earn his substantial corn.

I have a sneaking suspicion we will get in a couple of players before the window ends.  RW and CB feel pretty essential, I can't see Evans being fit all season and I'd be concerned with little Wes and Soyuncu paired up on Soy's last season form.

If he moves I’ll eat my own coccyx.

Do you intend to stream this?

Even in his quiet games you notice how much he stretches a game compared to when he's not playing. He's improved on his end product but we all know there's room for him to improve further. If he did he'd be virtually unplayable

Think you’re over egging it’s somewhat.

Hes an exciting player on his day but there were many times last season where he was poor. Kept doing the same thing time after time and failed every time. Intelligent defenders generally had him in their pocket. Plenty of games last season where we left the ground saying we should get rid, then of course he’d likely doing something impressive the next game. Very frustrating player imo.

Heard rumours from two sources with links to his parents that they thought he was off to Liverpool at the end of last season. May of course be bullshit but perhaps he’ll kick on again this season.

Look at the table buddy… 70 mill at present… not a chance

We don't need to sell him at market value though, which is obviously probably 35-40 million. He's worth more than that to us which is why the fee would have to be much closer to 7-80 million for us to even think of entertaining it/

Trouble is, Barnes fits into our top group - class players who can turn a game around, or otherwise shine in their position. Players like Madders, NDidi, Fofana, and Barnes of course, are in this top group.

Then we have the solid mid group. Not necessarily international class, not necessarily first team when everyone's fit, but players you rely to do a good job. The likes 9f Albrighton, Perez, Castagne, Amartey etc.

Then I 'm afraid we have the deadwood group. No need to name names.

If we need to sign players then we may need to sell someone from group 1. We've done it before eg Kante, Mahrez, even Maguire. But if we can keep this down to one sale from the top class group, get rid of deadwood, and sign good prospects (the hard part) then maybe it can work out.

Newcastle need to wind their neck in if this is true. They need to earn the right to buy players from us by being more successful (which they haven't been for decades.) Newcastle are allowed to buy players that aren't good enough for us in my opinion, how about Choudhury instead? He's on their level.

I think he was often let down by the lack of support down the left side, often he'd receive the ball and would be expected to beat 3 players, my most used shout out was "where's the overlap? Where's the support?"

When he eventually goes it will be to Liverpool or Man City. Klopp is a huge fan apparently. He won’t be going to the spice boys of Newcastle.

20/21 he stays fit, we get champions league I reckon, his goals/assists would of got us the extra few points needed. We cannot sell him, especially this point in the summer.
