Popular Post foxfanazer Posted 23 July 2022 Popular Post Posted 23 July 2022 Massively underrated player. His numbers are really impressive and he's still a young lad. Nobody scoffs when the likes of Grealish and Rice are valued at £100m+ so don't see why we should undervalue our players so much 8

This would be disastrous and require us to fix left and right wing in 5 weeks. ...there is a lot of Right footed LWs out there so replacements may not be so difficult!!! He does tend to look down on the ground a lot, he has a strange body language and could be introverted, but watching him today, you just wish he had some joy in his game.

Think he has the talent to break into the England team and then his value will rocket Plus we've not even replaced Mahrez yet so how could we possibly weaken our left side as well? I wouldn’t want to sell either mate. Not so much that the money wouldn’t be great, but that we’ve not got anyone else. And I don’t trust Rodgers to spend wisely

I think this is another example of kids having a bit of a dream fest The market is actually starting to stabilize out a little. Wages are becoming more salient than pure transfer fees But again, hope I’m wrong.. Home grown tax counts for plenty and PL teams are far richer than the likes of Benfica so he should go for more than Nunez. Everton needed to sell to an extent as they wouldn't be able to buy without the money because of the FFP limits. Sterling older and in the last year of his contract. Is Barnes worth £70m to many clubs? Doubt it. Is he worth that to us? Fair bit more than that. Certainly wouldn't back us to find better for £50m and that playing be interested in coming. He's still got plenty to improve on but he's a known quantity for us and we have to take a punt on somebody else to replace him so a pointless move on our part.
when_you're_smiling Posted 23 July 2022 Posted 23 July 2022 ‘A whopping’ constitutes ****ing far more than £50m and it best be so.
HoustonFox Posted 23 July 2022 Posted 23 July 2022 Harvey way too important for us to let go now. He’s not the finished article yet (decision making / being a bit too greedy some times goes against him) but he’s clearly come on leaps and bounds and is class. Really helps stretch the play for us and we have no one else who can do that. 1
Poznan34 Posted 23 July 2022 Posted 23 July 2022 £50m feels cheap - 3 years left on contract, England international and with our recent recruitment record I don't back us to adequately replace him.

Careful what you wish for as we'd just bring in someone of a worse standard and the slide to regular relegation battles begins. 2
JimJams Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 So if it was Barnes out and Lookman and De Ket/Madueke in, would it be a fair trade then?
Sly Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 What concerns me, is that we take the £50m and replace him with bloody Lookman. 1
Phenom Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 They really want him? 80 million. I think he’s about to have a VERY productive season. 2

And someone on here thinks we’ll get 70 mill for Harvey Barnes Oh dear.. Over the past season his goal ratio in the league is 1 in 4, and he virtually guarantees 8-10 assists also. he is 24, a proven premier league regular starter in a side that has been pushing for champions league regularly (until last seasons injury hit season) and an England international. As others have said, sterling was in his last year of contract and Man City wanted to sell, also Richarlison is inconsistent and Everton wanted to sell. £70m for a player that will average around 20 goal and assist contributions a season in the league, is not a crazy fee when you think about it. He may have quiet periods or moments of indecisions in the game but we have to keep him. 1

I’m not saying that anyone offers 70m for Harvey but thought I’d just comment on your other two examples as it’s not completely impossible it doesn’t happen.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 No way we’re selling Harvey. It just doesn’t make sense, and I’ve rather enjoyed yelling “go on Barnesy” every time he’s about to glide past a full back.
marbles Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 Weird to say, but half the people on here demanding 70mill+ plus, will be demanding we offload for 20mill the first time he has a bad game. 1

I’m not his biggest fan I’ve got to admit. He’s a one trick pony and last season Lookman was better on the left most of the time. When Harvey’s on it he’s very good but he’s not consistent enough for me. Like some people have said in here tho be careful because you know what BR is like and his replacement would be probably be a downgrade. 1

It makes me wonder no RW links and BR does like his 3 CB’s with the wingbacks! Could see other players come in that would suit that system.
TommyK Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 It doesn't matter what other players have gone for. The question is how important is he to us and how much do Newcastle want him. I would say he's vital to us as we don't have anyone like him and he consistently assists and scores. How much do Newcastle want him? Well let's see...
Babylon Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 His numbers say it all whether he plays well all the time or not. No way would I sell for that. To cheer people up, here is a Newcastle fan suggesting they sign Barnes, Maddison and Vardy. 4
Popular Post StanSP Posted 24 July 2022 Popular Post Posted 24 July 2022 Anyone willing to get rid of Barnes is off their rocker. Gets us a lot of goals and assists throughout the season. Madness. 7
Sunbury Fox Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 Agree that selling Barnes would be madness. Also not convinced that any of our best players would want to go to Newcastle at this point - give it 2 or 3 more years when they've bought their way into top 6 contention and that then becomes a much bigger risk, though.
Guest ttfn Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 There is definitely a perception problem with Barnes. He gets nowhere near the respect he deserves from our fans let alone anybody else. I’m sure it doesn’t help that he looks like a rugby league player - he doesn’t play football with any particular grace (albeit he’s scored a few very nice goals) but the stats speak for themselves - he is a very effective wide forward at this level. Comparing him to a couple of recent transfers at £50m, last 3 seasons in the PL: Richarlison 30 goals, 11 assists in 100 games (0.43 g/a p90) Jesus 31 goals, 21 assists in 91 games (0.78 g/a p90) Barnes 21 goals, 22 assists in 93 games (0.63 g/a p90) Richarlison has scored 4 penalties in that total and Jesus 2 (Barnes 0). All roughly the same age but Barnes is the youngest by about 6 months. Jesus was in the last year of his contract. Over the last 3 years Barnes has only got 2 goals/assists fewer than Maddison who everybody seems to agree would fetch at least £75m if he was sold today (and Barnes is a year younger).
Claudio Fannieri Posted 24 July 2022 Posted 24 July 2022 (edited) Simple answer absolutely no way should we entertain selling Barnes or Maddison for that matter, as I genuinely believe they would be irreplaceable for what they bring to our team for the money we would receive, they are so critical to how play and when they are on it we are at our very best Edited 24 July 2022 by Claudio Fannieri
