If this Lafont is better and cheaper than Schmichael, why don't Nice buy him instead? It's not like they are unaware of him, they play in the same division.

They already have a young keeper who they have just signed called Marcin Bulka who is quite highly rated

So now it looks like they are going for a more experienced keeper to replace the one they lost - already had a deal fall through for Yann Sommer (33) after he chose to stay at Gladbach

This thing about Schmeichel’s distribution is ridiculous.

Every goalkeeper we’ve EVER had would simply hoof the ball as hard as they can, and it would drop somewhere around the centre circle, where both sides would contest headers.

Enter Schmeichel, who starts getting about five assists a season by placing quick accurate balls. This becomes the norm for us.

He goes through a phase of his passes not coming off, and all of a sudden “his distribution is rubbish”.

I wasn't asking about Schmeiche'ls distribution I was asking about the potential signing of a new keeper.

Yeah, soz. I just piggy backed on your comment because the whole ‘his distribution is terrible’ thing is something people talk about a lot.

Lafont and Kasper are at opposite ends of their careers.

It's quite possible Lafont would be far more interested in moving to the Premier League than another French club whilst Kasper is likely to find Nice more relaxed both off and on the pitch and the the lifestyle in Nice is probably very appealing after a decade in the East Midlands.

I suspect that most of his time spent in the East Midlands is at Seagrave which is probably better than he'll find at Nice. He probably only ever ventures into our fair City on match days.

Is the Nice lifestyle better than leafy Cheshire? I don't know, having never lived in either.

Given the choice between the French Riviera and the North West of England, I know where I’d live.

That said, he won’t properly move anyway. He’ll just get himself a nice little pad overlooking the sea, flying back to Cheshire as and when.

Surely Nice are more interested in the club's best interest rather than the players feelings?

Well, they are quite important. If Lafont doesn't want to go there and Schmeichel does, it makes more sense for them to go for Schmeichel.

How is Lafont cheaper?

The fee (if any) for Kasper will be nominal. He isn’t going there on £130,000/wk either.

Lafont won't be signing for 130k either.

Hes to blame for everything including the cost of living crisis, fuel prices, covid pandemic. Its all his fault and you just need to accept that.

Well obviously not, but if he’s gonna cost 20m, he wouldn’t be cheaper option for Nice would he? Which is what you suggested.

Well the fact he did is secondary to the fact he didn`t bring Viktor bloody Tsygnakov back when he left

I don’t think we will sign a new first choice keeper this window but I do really hope in the future if we decide Ward and Iversen are not the way to go that we do go for Lafont

http://sportwitness.co.uk/leicester-closely-following-potential-schmeichel-replacement-e20m-enough/

Leicester ‘very closely’ following potential Schmeichel replacement – €20m could be enough

Having left Kasper Schmeichel head to OGC Nice, Leicester City will now be looking for a new goalkeeper.

The Dane was allowed to leave after many years of service at King Power Stadium, and the aim will be to bring a younger replacement in to fill the slot long-term.

That’s where someone like Alban Lafont, 23 years of age, fits the bill, and Media Foot in France are reporting Leicester’s interest in the shot stopper.

They explain the young goalkeeper’s profile is ‘extremely liked’ by those in charge of the Foxes, with his performances over the past year ‘clearly working in his favour’.

Lafont is reportedly being followed ‘very closely’ by Leicester, but it’s then pointed out that Nantes aren’t interested in selling at all.

That being said, if a ‘good offer, superior to €20m’ were to land on their table, ‘how could they refuse?’

It’s something to keep in mind, as Leicester will need someone in the very near future, with neither Danny Ward nor Daniel Iversen seen as the long-term solution in the role.

Brendan has repeatedly said that he see's Ward as a number 1.  He's hardly going to row back on that statement after 1 game.

Where is the notion that neither Ward or Iversen are seen as Kaspers replacement.

Why would we spend 20 million on another Keeper when we clearly need a RW and a MidFielder right now.

Both Schemiechel and the club said he wouldn't be leaving until a replacement came in. moore_94 mentioned buying in the future so perhaps not rowing back after 1 game.

Of course Rodgers will state that he rates his two keepers.

Perhaps we have the funds to buy all three if enough players leave.

We don't have the money and if we did I'd rather promote Stolarczyk already and get a proper winger such is the desperation in that position.

Well he's going on loan as he's nowhere near ready and how certain are you we don't have the money? Shift a few players and it may all fall into place?

I'm just guessing as I haven't seen the books.

...we are more likely to bring in a new Keeper than a RW!!!

That position is not perceived as an important role to fill. It should be.

How do you know this?
