This could just be paper talk nonsense to be honest. The media linked us to numerous CB’s to ‘replace’ Maguire and we ended up finding a solution in house. 
 

Reckon this will be a similar situation. Will be easy clickbait to link us with numerous different keepers but we won’t sign any of them.

We did try and replace Maguire late in the window. Had bids turned down for Ake and Tarkowski.

Mhm. As soon as l'equipe reported we were waiting to sign a replacement, the usual suspects were always going to start randomly guessing at people that are allegedly available. 

 

In our financial situation, the club might not even decide to sign a replacement. That part might also be rubbish. 

 

If we get a few million as a fee and Kasper off the books, maybe that's enough to sign a valuable out field player Brendan would rather have and just keep Ward with Iversen as back up. Certainly not impossible. We can debate all day if we think Ward is good enough, the only opinions that really matter are Rodgers and Rudkin. What do they think our priorities are?

Every goalkeeper we’ve EVER had would simply hoof the ball as hard as they can, and it would drop somewhere around the centre circle, where both sides would contest headers.

 

Enter Schmeichel, who starts getting about five assists a season by placing quick accurate balls. This becomes the norm for us.

 

He goes through a phase of his passes not coming off, and all of a sudden “his distribution is rubbish”.

I suspect that's what 'keepers did back in the day. Get rid, clear the danger. The advent of 'keepers being the first part of the build up is maybe a new-ish thing, a Pep thing even.

 

I think it fair to say, as you've correctly stated imho, Kasper's distribution could be rubbish. And in that, as a 'keeper, he is certainly not alone.  Though tbh I do laugh when commentators talk about his "excellent distribution" only for him to go plant it 5 rows into the stand. 

 

I must admit that I do have a pet hate of the 9 iron chip into midfield, allowing the opposition plenty of time to size it up and our guy to go 'oh fek, I'm about to get clattered here'

I think it's different skills really to be fair. 

 

I think Kasper's long balls are excellent, especially kicking from his hands. Those 50 yard slightly diagonal balls in to the channels are absolutely /chefskiss. 

 

His close control and shorter distribution, particularly on the ground, is mediocre at best. Those dinked, floaty balls out to the full backs are really not his forte and are obviously something he's had to add to his game later in his career. 

 

Cags and Fuchs also have those terrific cross field balls in their locker but you wouldn't expect them to, say, nail one of these trivela passes Madders has been fond of over the last six months just as I wouldn't expect Maddison to necessarily find Riyad from left back in the pouring rain sixty yards away.

helluva ball that one. Once in a lifetime even. One he could dine out on, or at least have a few free beers off the back of.

 

Edit: and, of course, Mahrez's touch (and we will say it was deliberate and not a miscontrol  )... and the finish; Vardy does not miss them. All in all, one of the best goals of all time, and oh-so Leicester (back then)

I wouldn't trust Rodgers to sign a cheque let alone a goalkeeper. He and his coaching staff have hardly done wonders in enticing Caspar off his goal line let alone organise a defence from set pieces.

Let's be fair to Schmeichel- his distribution has only ever been in question since we've become hell-bent on implementing the high-risk/low-reward tactic of chipping it out to the full-back and putting ourselves under needless pressure.

Schmeichel's goalkeeping coach at Leicester has been the same bloke during his entire career here, Mike Stowell. Also the bloke in charge of set pieces

Absolutely, they must have stayed in bed every day! Rodgers however oversees them. I think by now, if things hadn't improved substantially defence wise, with the international standard players at their disposal, you'd have to question the abilities of the coaching staff and make a few redundancies and then get people in that can make a difference.

I can remember one against Arsenal where Vardy hit the bar and scored the rebound but where are the 49 other assists?
