Huge press conference today.

Please, please give us some good news, Brendan.

How about:

"Fofana and Maddison are both staying", "Ricardo injury is not as bad as first feared", "Barnesy is fine and raring to go", "Vestergaard has been sold for what we paid for him", "Arsenal have stumped up £50m for Youri", "We have bought an exciting new right winger" ??

I guess just one of those would be nice

Well Maddison is 100% staying and I'm pretty certain Barnes is fit too.

Surely with them prem starting tonight we’ve had to register players we intend to include in Sundays squad.

Wonder who we’ve initially left out?

Say for example we register Youri and play him then sell him, can we reallocate his registration spot?

We don’t have to register players with the league until the transfer window shuts. Can play whoever we want from the squad until then.

Or:

Rodgers has provided an update on the 30-year-old who remains fully committed to the club.

“There’s no update at all,” Rodgers told a press conference.

“He’s an amazing guy to work with. He’s just re-joined the club [for pre-season] and he’s pretty much the same. In training he’s very committed.

“He’s happy in his work and he’s happy at the club. But naturally with a year on his contract he may feel he has to look at everything for him and his family. But I certainly know he’s committed while he is here.

“I’ll have a good chat with Jannick next week to get privately what he’s thinking. But it won’t change, whether he’s leaving or staying for another five years, he’ll still be super committed.”

In the meantime I see his future here on the right wing. The lad has blistering pace, brave and tough in the air and leaps like a Danish salmon. He's got a blinding shot on him that could clear the top of the stadium, even higher than Wilf who is also quite expert. He's a tricky big lug with a ball at his feet and if he drops a shoulder, his giant elbow will crack a right backs foot, they all fear him, particularly when he gurns at them. He loves it when the fans whistle the Adams Family tune as his anthem!

Brendan bingo would be a good thread ...

Will go with what we’ve got, two number ones, disappointing and frustrating, we’ll be better on set pieces, not for sale, no incomings likely, Jonny great leader, Maddison best ever.

Brendan Rodgers Pre-Match Press Conference vs Brentford

Injuries?

“It was looking really good, but we’ve picked up injuries against Sevilla. Sadly Ricardo Pereira will be out for up to 6 months with a ruptured Achilles. A lot of our game idea was about our full-backs and him in particular. He was looking so good. It’s a massive blow to him. Operation last night. He’ll get up again and get strong. Harvey came off and he may be out for a few weeks. Apart from that, the squad is ok.”

Ricardo?

“It just snapped. He’s looked so good in pre-season. He’ll be a big miss for us.”

Barnes?

“Hopefully he won’t be too long and he can come back and pick up where he left off.”

Schmeichel?

“He’s a true icon of the club. He has been very important to the club. On the pitch, a colossal player for the club, been a part of all the great successes over the past decade. A real good guy off the field and I don’t say that lightly. His passion, his determination. Living with the name Schmeichel was going to be tough, but he made a name for himself. His service was immense. I’ll miss him, players will miss him. New adventure for him in the south of France and he’ll really enjoy that.”

Other departures?

“I hope not. These players are not for sale. We need to move players out but it’s not getting rid of everyone and certainly not our best assets. It’s something the club are very strong on. James and Wesley are training very well and working hard for our game on Sunday.”

Prices that could prompt sales?

“That’s down to the club. For me, I concentrate on football.”

Making any signings?

“As things stand, I believe not. I mentioned that before, there’s nobody imminent coming in. The concentration has purely been on the players who are here. I think we can do well. Any manager will want new players in their squad. I felt this was a time we would need to improve. I respect the club’s position. The club have been outstanding in supporting me. This time, I need to support them. It’s unfortunate. I don’t need to fight with anyone. I would have loved to improve the squad. There is time until the end of August if things change. But at this moment, the focus.”

Captain?

“Jonny Evans. Jonny represents the collective standards of these players. He has huge respect in the changing room for what he’s achieved. He’s the natural guy to step forward.”

What would be good season?

“We’ll see how it goes. The challenge is always there. There are more competitors now for those European places. Challenge for Europe is always the aim. We’ll carry that into the season.”

Brentford?

“Always a difficult game. We won the games last season but they were tough. It looks like they’re playing with a back four. Having got promoted playing as a back three. They’re well-coached, and well-organised. Thomas has done a fantastic job there. It was a period last year when we played them last year where there was concern if they would remain in the league, but they finished the season very well. You’re always happy to be home in the first game. Supporters will be very important for us this season.”

Pre-season?

“Players have been excellent. We’ve been able to get a lot of work in. When the season, the load will lighten. It was about getting minutes in and looking at tactical ideas but two injured players were influential in that.”

New number one?

“Just wait and see, then you can see.”

Bertrand?

“He hasn’t featured at all. He’s still a number of weeks away from being fit.”

Ward?

“He’s come through that in-house game really well. He had been training for a week before that. He felt fine after the game.”

What's he looking for from Ward or Iversen?

“You’re looking for a goalkeeper who can stop the ball going in the net, can distribute and can deal with the pressure. Kasper was a guy of consistency, so the next guy coming in will be ready. I’ve always said Ward is a number one, Iversen has gone away and done well. I don’t feel like I need to look outside for a new goalkeeper.”

Vice-captain?

“Not as of yet. Kasper’s decision came to us quickly. It was a natural decision for Jonny. We’ll look to that next week and we’ll open that out.”

Fringe players leaving?

“There have been enquiries about a number of the players, so we’ll have to see how that materialises, but there’s nothing imminent.”

Message for fans?

“There’s been a lot of noise around the club, naturally because we haven’t signed a player, but when we go into every season, there are possibilities. Internally we’re very excited about the season and hopefully the noise doesn’t affect the mentality of the stadium. We’re going to need them.”

Yeh and if little Wes fit likely to be something like

iversen Amartey Fofana Evans Castagne ndidi KDH Justin Maddison Vardy Daka

Posted

If it's a 2 up front, I would prefer it to be Vardy and Iheanacho. But, given the manager's obvious preferences, it'll probably be Vardy - Daka.

I reckon we are going to start with a back 3 due to Barnes' injury. not a huge fan but allows us to get both Vardy and Daka up top together I guess.
