Why are Man Utd looking at older, ageing strikers?!

Because they are an older, ageing club

At 36 nobody is going to pay a " massive" fee yet alone Man united. Sadly based on what I have seen so far this season his age has got the better of him. He's not the Vardy we all know and love. His pace has gone and I would be surprised if he got into double figures from now on., especially in our team at present. Given our financial state, I would not be offering him a new contract unless his wages were greatly reduced. If he wants a last hurrah somewhere else then good luck to him, it will make no difference to us Leicester fans as to how we feel about him. Without a doubt the greatest and most successful striker we have ever had and probably ever will have.

So give him a new contract.

We owe him a lot.He owes us nothing!

Yes, a new contract but at a greatly reduced wage. And you are wrong about he owes us nothing. This club gave him his big chance and stuck with him when he struggled to make an impact. This he acknowledges himself. We simply can't carry on paying out in excess of 100.000 in wages anymore and even Kasper knew this hence his departure.

He's definitely lost a fair bit of pace or acceleration. The ball over the top or through balls from 40 yards out don't look to be an option anymore.

Probably time to at least see how Daka and iheanacho can play together.

We already know how they play together!...

Poorly.

He shouldn't be chasing long balls through the middle though  at his age.

If we had wingers ,his intelligence would get him into scoring positions when the ball is cut back or whipped in.

His pace might be going a bit ,but he's still a brilliant finisher.

Sheringham went on for a good while and scored for fun because he had supply and was too clever for most defenders

Sheringham never relied on pace though, he was a totally different more technical forward. Vardys game is halved or worse by losing that yard or two of pace.

Let's be honest, if I came out of retirement the BBC gossip page would headline "United interested in steveherbe". Joke of a club, and a joke website.

They just feed off other news sources. That’s why it’s dressed up as Gossip. Throw enough stuff at the wall, some of it will stick.

I stand by my original prediction that Ten Haag will be a failure at Manchester United. The first couple of games haven’t exactly done anything to change my opinion. Vardy isn’t what they need either.

Although, it’s not dissimilar to the Schmeichel deal, end of career etc.

Vardy will need money at the moment. If we’re not offering a contract on less money and he’s not accepting it; with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool etc offering more, we might be wise to wish him well.

It’s brutal but football at the highest level is.

Why would he need the money at the moment!? Because of one case? I'm sure he's got plenty stashed away after having some handsome contracts from us in the past. I can't see him going. Abroad maybe but certainly not to another Prem team.

We've seen loads of strikers over the years with incredible pace but shit for brains.

Vardys pace has helped him on many occasions but his quick thinking , positional sense and finishing ability has got him many of his goals.

Vardy's footballing intelligence is second to none. Maybe you value pace above all other attributes, but, for long periods of his career here, he's been underserved by his colleagues. Mahrez was intelligent enough to really bring out the best in Vardy, but since he departed there's been a break in the supply chain. When Barnes and Madders click then Vardy can still be a significant threat.

Honestly, if Pep had Vardy with the service from De Bruyne, Foden, Gundogan, etc....I don't even know how many goals he'd get.

No idea why Man City never looked at him. Probably not a sexy enough name.

Maybe he should have grown a moustache, bought a sun bed and changed his name to Juan Vardino

Undoubtedly and I agree. But a big part of his game is pace and he's clearly lost a bit more this year which was bound to happen. Some strikers who never had pace (Zlatan) or can adapt their game as their incredible players (Ronaldo) can be highly effective still, and hopefully Vardys cleverness will still get him goals but it's hard to deny that the days of seeing his blistering pace in behind where you know he's not getting caught are gone and that's just a sad fact.

Bit of a random link but didnt one of the posters on here years ago just make up a player, made a thread and some news outlet clearly snooped on here and stole it as a genuine player of interest?  Or am I imagining that?

Bit more difficult to do these days of course
