I’ve learned over the years to never write the bloke off but is it sensible to give someone at his age a 140k pw contract extension when we are struggling financially? 
 

Its the elephant in the room not many people will want to discuss and if we were in better financial health he’d absolutely deserve it but in my opinion we need to start thinking about halving that wage.

1+1 sounds good to me. I do want Daka to get more minutes in his position this year, though. We need to see if he’s the successor or not.

What do people mean by 1+1 or 2+1. His contract is already expiring at the end of this season. Does 1+1 now the season has started mean expiring 2023 or 2024 with an option to extend.

1 year extension (so until 2024) then have an option to extend it a further year if we want to (so until 2025)

Ok in that case I agree. I was thinking people meant only to 2023 as it already is with an option to extend further

I don't care. Shouldn't pay Rodgers so much or the likes of Vestergaard and shit like that

 

If we can afford to have the 5th or 6th best paid manager in the league and no worry about how we perform then we can pay our best ever player and last seasons top scorer a good wage

Hope we're looking for a significant drop in his salary if he wants another year. We need to drop the sentimentality from the club, it costs us far too much money and takes an edge away from us.

 

No idea why he isn't negotiating a contract with NYC tbh. Seems to be the obvious move for him next season

Doesn’t need to negotiate a contract when he part owns the club. I assume you’re referring to Rochester.

I honestly can’t see a ‘big club’ give him a deal, and in any sense what would they expect of him - he’s not going to play week in week out for them is he.

 

We absolutely cannot afford to lose him. He’s the club talisman, and for many he is the club.

He is NOT the club though. He is a legend and will always be an important part of the club and it’s history. I would like him around for a few more seasons, but realistically that has to be it. Love the guy. Love what he has achieved with us. The club will go on without him - well, unless we get into a pointy thing joust with Putin.

Going to Rochester would be like going back to Stocksbridge Steels. NYC makes more sense from a footballing perspective.

 

 

But Vardy definitely has plenty of more goals to score for Leicester, so this contract is great news.
