We’ve been doing that for about two years.

I’d suggest that at the end of last season we struggled with the first part tbh - looking confident, passing it around, efforts on goal

Agreed and that’s what they should be used for. Not starting like Amartey did

I agree with your points, just that it should've already happened. A second summer of rebuilding completely and utterly wasted.

We’re going to be in rapid decline if we don’t get a grip now. We’ve probably got enough to survive this season but without a plan we are crashing back down again, mark my words. I’ve been watching football 25 years now, I know the telltale signs of a club in a downward spiral.

For me the salvage operation starts now.

1. Sack Brendan. He’s a coward, he has no faith in the club and the club has no faith him him. The current side is built in his image; intelligent, initially enthusiastic but spineless, lacking in ideas, creativity and energy.

2. Cash in on the players who want to go, at least some of them. For me the hill I’d die on is Maddison. Fofana can go for £80m+, Tielemans can go for whatever we can get, within reason, and any player we have any kind of replacement for is available for transfer.
3. We need to look at young, upcoming players again. Some excellent players have moved from the Championship in recent years, look at the likes of Bowen. We need to be getting to them first. We need better international recruitment again. No more silly fees for established players. We need to bring them in THIS season so they have time to settle and lead the club forward.

4. Renewed focus on the medical, scouting and youth development facilities. Our fitness and recruitment have been dogshit for a couple of years.

If we move in the next 6 months I think we can stop the slide but will probably reset in mid table. But I think if we maintain the status quo we’re relegated within two or three years.

A few around me Sunday saying Brendan should go I’m slowly after Sunday slowly being swayed to thinking the same but he’s a quality manager got us two trophy’s two 5 place finishes a European quarter final so why has he gone from hero to zero by so many foxes fans, then there’s if Top decides to sack Brendan who takes over some want Potter can’t see him leaving Brighton some strange journalists recon Poch is being lined up ?

But all I want as a fan of our great club is us being as successful as we can keep gatecrashing the top 6 party competing with the best whether that’s with Brendan or not the Club comes first !

But its not one game is it.  All thru last season we lost games we should have won.  Rodgers is the reason.  We were bullied out of the eufa cup.  The forrest game! Dropped points against relegated clubs nevermind midtable rivals.  Why do folk think rodgers can turn this around?

Rapid decline? We've finished top 8 in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Sacking Rodgers as of now what does that achieve?  We're playing him best part of 10 million a year with a few years on his contract left. Its a hefty pay off required.

Who's better than Rodgers that's going to come in and do a better job right now?

We have to resolve the wages to turnover issue and we need to shift some players on, were not an attractive club for an ambitious manager as of right now.

For the record I think Rodgers has come to end of where he can take us and either should have left at the end of last season or will leave at some point this season with his credit intact.

Recruitment and some contract renewals in the last few years has now set us back.

Buying up and coming championship players is expensive and risky, we should have a wide source of countries for Recruitment.

Our training facilities are up there with the best in Europe.

Another panic stations topic which we don't need.

Thank god someone started a thread to bring this refreshingly frank point of view to our attention. Here's what I'd do:

1. Get @Bryn in charge. We need someone the club has faith in.

2. Sell all our best players.

3. Make a series of inspired signings. No more signing tried and tested players. We need to start plucking diamonds out of the French second division again and adding three zeroes to their value within a couple of years. Repeatedly.

4. Bring better players through the academy.

5. Bring back the clappers. One game without them was a draw. Coincidence???

I don’t know how you watch that game and go ‘we are in rapid decline’, and all that. For a long spell, we controlled the ball, scored twice, hit the post twice.

We are consistently let down by the back up brigade being poor and a manager who likes to overthink.

This.

Sort one of the two issues out and we'll be in a much better position.

I have some sympathy with BR here though the inadequacies of the bench are at least in part due to poor decision making by him in the past. Any substitution would have had its risks.

NDidi had a poor game and was visibly declining as well. His replacement would have been Mendy but what you lose is NDidis defensive strength at set pieces. Against a team of giants - esp after the subs  came on that was probably a risk. BR has constantly dithered between Mendy and Hamza as NDidi back up and we re left with neither of them

being a fully trusted  and integrated  squad member.

Praet, Perez aren’t like for like replacements for anyone in yesterdays set up, they don’t really fit, Thomas would have reduced physical presence and set piece strength, Soyuncu might have helped shore us up but it depends on which version of Calgar turns up (pre 2020 or post 2020) so I do understand Brendan’s hesitancy - especially as he’s made it public he’d like a lot of these players gone ..

the problem is that is his squad - and his job is to get the best out of them ..

Some of the points are valid but this club doesn't need the fans turning on the manager to make a change. There are some very intelligent people in the boardroom both football and business-wise. If there's an issue or an actual downward slide, they'll resolve it. Too much effort has gone in to establishing us in this league for them to throw it away blindly hoping for change.

in 3 or 4 weeks we'll know more about what we have to with in the squad. In 3 or 4 months if we're in trouble or actually spiralling, changes will be made.

Not that clever handing a ridiculous salary to a manager who we all know is not worth it and never will be. :dunno:

I'm not going to argue on point one because managers come and go and everyone will be entitled to their opinion...

But 3) and 4):

3) Our strategy has had a large focus on the championship, buying the likes of Maddison and Justin, and also loaning out to the championship and bringing back those that did well (Barnes, Dewsbury-Hall, Iverson).  We can't buy everyone that way and your example of Bowen, I believe we were interested in him, but we can't get everyone.

4)  We have been focusing on this. We have changed medical personnel and spent millions on a state of the art facility to attract and develop young players.

While our game management was terrible, we played well for most of the game. Definitely not a "damage limitation" scenario!

To me, the best XI we currently have is;

Ward

Castagne Fofana Evans Justin

Ndidi Tielemans KDH

Barnes                Maddison

Vardy

It's a bit unbalanced because we have too many central midfielders in the squad and not enough wide players. Of our excessive CMs, we also have 3 who seem undroppable, meaning a lot of pointless and probably sulking players (Soumare, Praet, Mendy, Choudhury).

Say Tielemans and Soumare leave and we get ~£40m combined, I'd like us to reinvest the money in two wide forwards and play a 4-2-3-1.

With no European distractions, this squad should comfortably finish top half.

1st choice

2nd choice

3rd choice

GK

Ward

Iversen

Youth teamer*

RB

Castagne

Pereira

CB

Evans

Amartey

Vestegaard

CB

Fofana

Soyuncu

LB

Justin

Thomas*

Bertrand

DMC

Ndidi

Mendy

Choudhury

MC

KDH

Praet

AMR

(~£25m signing – CHO?)

Albrighton

AMC

Maddison

Perez

AML

Barnes

(~£15m signing)

FW

Vardy

Iheanacho

Daka

Watching football for 25 years doesn't make your opinion more valid than anyone else's. We have all been watching football all our lives This is a football after all and those are rookie numbers ha.

Like most clubs you have a few good seasons where players are added to the journey (some successful, others less so), players who were once great for the club decline or can't match the new level you are at and need to be moved on. Hamza is a good example of this.

This is us at the moment. We have a large number of players who need to be moved on. Our level/standard/expectation has risen. That's all. It will take a few years to sort out but we have enough quality this time to survive the transition with a bit of mid table mediocrity. It will be frustrating but I'll take that. Keep the faith.
