Not sure why anyone would turn their nose up at him. He was excellent in the championship. Did pretty well in a struggling WBA side at prem level, then buggered off for a payday as many a footballer would.  If he's available for decent money from our Pov then its a goer.

You don't think his 11 goals and 6 assists in 33 premier league games is any good then? Righto.

I'm also unsure why being excellent in the championship is a negative. Presumably we shouldn't have bothered with Maddison, nor West ham with Bowen.

He’s a money grabber mate and not someone I want in my team while we fight off relegation.

He was sold to the only club that made an offer for him. At 80k a week. He's no more a money grabber than any other footballer. I'd guess if another Prem club offered that wage he'd have gone to them and likely wouldn't be labeled a money grabber.

If you don't want him, fair enough. I just found (other peoples) reasoning that they seemingly don't rate him because he was good in the championship bizarre.

Of course he's a money grabber. Hardly makes him unique in the world of professional football though does it?

If we’re buying good championship wingers, let’s get Josh Bowler. Something to prove vs someone who actively came out and said his Saudi move was nothing but money chasing. You think this team’s mentality needs another one of those?

Is this a smokescreen, for anyone, anyone at all lol ?!

There is a faint smell of succession planning for the departure of someone else in a future

Choosing to go to Saudi Arabia aged 25 says all you need to know

Except in 2008, his dad lost his job in Brazil and his family had absolute fcuk all for a bit. They moved to Portugal and had to rebuild a life.

There’s a very legitimate reason a lot of Brazilians end up on ‘paydays’ because it’s an opportunity to secure their extended family for life from poverty

Some actual useful information in a post rather than sweeping generalisations and cod pyschology. :jawdrop:

He was also good in the Prem as you've said.  I don't have a photographic memory like so many in this forum seem to have but I do recall he was unplayable at times for WBA in the prem and looked an absolute handful.  Think his work rate was good as well, single handedly dragging his team up the pitch at times.

Looks decent, but can't wait til we get the new scout in. Most recent links have been Demiral & this Periera, it's like we're working from the little black book from 2 years ago.

His West Brom stats were propped up by penalties. His non-penatly xG + xA was 0.33 per 90 - which is more Albrighton level than Barnes'.

He’s a decent-ish player but some pretty significant questions about his attitude and motivation. He’s gone to Saudi league after throwing his toys out of the pram, scored one goal all season and now wants out….

I have no idea what most of that even means …. But if he is as good as albrighton that means he is better than Perez …

4 of his 11 goals were penalties. So if for some reason they don't count he got 7 goals and 6 assists from Prem 33 games. Not massively dissimilar to Barnes in 20/21. Certainly a lot closer to Barnes than Albrighton and that's with dismissing penalties.

He's a very creative type of midfielder / winger and I could see the desire to bring a player like him in to play RW or in the 10 role. His set piece delivery is very very good too.

I don't know why we didn't go for him properly last summer, we were linked but as per usual left sorting out a winger until the end of the window. Do the same every year.
