Which Teachers/Lessons Do You Remember From School?

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time since I was at school, but I was reminiscing about those days.

I remember a teacher at junior school called Mr Rose in my 4th year. He was so encouraging and inspiring. Also Miss Gibbs. She was my 5th year teacher as I was taking my (then) 11 plus exams. She never said anything but I felt she felt I had what it took to get me to grammar school even though I was generally underperforming and being a dick.

At grammar school there was an American geography teacher on exchange. He was from Indianapolis. Sparked my interest in geography and helped me get the marks for a decent pass.

Loved any practical lessons, metalwork and woodwork were a favourite. I remember the woodwork teacher asking why the points of small nails should be tapped with a hammer and from somewhere I said "so that they punch a hole and don't split the wood". Got decent praise for that.

I remember getting told off for doing homework early lol. My mate and I (we both did the homework) couldn't work out the logic lol. Apparently we ruined that day's lesson plan for the teacher.

I had a Geography teacher who once threw one of those board-rubbers back at us because he got annoyed at how noisy we were being.

Elocution, couldn’t understand a word of it. Got sent out of assembly with my mate, waiting outside the dep heads office, mrs Murphy came striding down the corridor and one of her magnificent boobs flew out. Still remember it from 40 years ago. Another one was physics. The teacher had about 10 kids standing in buckets holding hands and a girl standing bare feet on the end with one of those van de graff generators going, girl on the end hair stood on end and the teacher started pointing at her head, followed by a massive spark of electricity to his finger from her head, followed by the girl collapsing on the floor… my thoughts, physics is my sort of subject.

I was rubbish at school. I can remember some of the teachers. I don't think they were that good really but in my case they didn't have much to work with. History has always been a passion but it was dull as ditch water at school. I learnt more from TV, books and parents.

Mrs Smally - RE. Some kids used to torment the poor old dear so much that on one occasion she hid in the cupboard because she couldn't handle it.

Mr Greatorex - Metalwork. Nasty bastard who would wrap you over the knuckles with a metal ruler if you misbehaved

Can't remember any decent teachers but that probably says more about me than them tbh

My 1st tutor as secondary school was a bit religious and nuts, didn't have a TV. So of course we asked what her furniture pointed at.

My geography teacher Mr Wright (could have been white) it turns out also taught my mum, he also had several accusations of sexual harassment over the years. None stuck. But seems he had dated a few students over the years.

I can pretty much remember and picture most my teachers.

Did have a student teacher for 2 weeks as well once. Miss Jex, she got nicknamed unsexy jexy.

Seems we put her off secondary school as a career. She now works at the local primary 😅

When and where was this? My son had a supply teacher by the same name several times last year at a primary school in Narborough.

All the kids despised him, said he was the worst teacher they'd ever had.

This was Lutterworth High school around 1985/6 so he's probably dead by now

Ah not too far away though. He said he was really old.

Just caught my attention as its not a name I've heard very often.

Had a teacher who came in for music at my secondary school, he seemed normal enough, until a few years later when he got done for being a nonce.

One of my old teachers was ex-military. Very no-nonsense, as you might expect. Taught metalwork, might expect that too.

Anyhow, he only ever took the lead in one assembly, but the chief message of it was... "always have a contingency plan because things never go totally according to what you assume".

That's stuck with me.

I remember Mr majiti jumping off a stool to use his cane.

My Mr Majiti had zero control of his class, 1980s, not post caning but done only by the headmaster.

Could it be you had my Mr Majiti in his younger days when he was cane enabled and not a tottally uselesss teacher?

A different Mr Majiti seems more likely but it would be incredible i it was the same man, I doubt he could have mounted a stool.......

Not a teacher but a US serviceman taught me to play chess and how to smoke cigerettes at the age of 8. i remain really good at both.

School, other than the 3 Rs, aint really meant as a place of learning, nothing that couldnt be condensed into short YouTube clips anyways

As above military taught me to smoke and play chess and I am good at both.

You turned out a right brainbox leicmac so if that was your inspiration, must be something in this military stuff

Did you go to the same school as me lol

Had a geography teacher (not same as my other post) who was quite a bit older and his behaviour around the girls was always a bit dodgy. An eccentric character nonetheless...
