I think he'll be put out to pasture relatively quickly. Okoli and Vestegaard I feel will be out partnership until January and then someone new will come in.

To be honest, on the showing of the last two games I'd stick with Coady in there, he was the best of a bad bunch at Brentford and if RVD has the sense to sit our pairing deep to account for the lack of pace, him and Vestergaard look plenty competent and last night showed the graft completely lacking from Wout's game at present. Perhaps rotate one of him and Okoli with Vestergaard the ever-present, as we'll need to keep legs fresh during the festive fixture onslaught.

The real elephant in the room is the right back situation - do we persist with Justin, who was better last night but still like a rabbit in headlights at times and gifted them numerous chances during a few periods? A few here want to see Choudhury given a go in that position, but I'm skeptical whether or not it's going to fix how porous we are down that side.

As long as Belgium keep picking him he'll always have a swagger, be arrogant & believe he's better than he is.

Surely they will drop him pretty soon based on his performances for us.

He isn't. He's flawed but he's capable.

He won us the game v Bournemouth on his own with heroic defending..

Him and Winks also won us 4 points at Saints and Ipswich when then the two of them together dictated a patient build up that had both opposition on their knees

He's decent, he's erratic. And sometimes you take the rough with the smooth

I'm sorry but erratic as a CB is a terrible characteristic, potentially the worst characteristic to have. He has a lot of decent/good attributes (which is why he is so frustrating) but he constantly tries to give goals away. If a CB is rarely singled out for criticism then they are performing to a decent standard; we talk about Faes after every game.

Hamza Choudhury won us 3 points against West Brom last season but he is written off by nearly everyone as being crap too.

You can afford 'rough with the smooth' for a winger but for a team fighting for survival we need better than 'erratic' from our CBs.

We can agree to disagree.

Ok,  that summary is far better than your previous 'he's crap' ...things aren't quite that black and white, as your post above basically confirms

He hasn’t been great for us this season, he’s inconsistent and prone to calamities. But let’s be honest, we know he’s good enough for this level if he finds his form and applies himself.

There’s a clear pattern of scapegoating on this forum, and it looks like he might be the latest in a long line. I really wish the admins would address this, it’s just far too much unnecessary negativity if left to run wild.

I am sorry but we must be watching a different player, genuinely think he is in top 3 worst centre backs in the league

Faes is now in a position that no-one remembers the good bits, but everyone remembers every mistake (admittedly that's because they tend to lead to goals)

There was a pretty crucial bit of defending just after West Ham scored.

He's just not the kind of defender you can rely on when you are under pressure, especially when as a team we allow opposition so many attempts at goal. If we get a reasonable bid in Jan then its the right time to sell and hopefully re-invest in a better option and long term partner for Okoli.

Long term partner for Okoli:blink:. Faes and Okoli are birds of a feather, decent defensive attributes but will fall asleep and pass the ball straight to the opposition. If we are to stay in this league we need those two to be bench options at best.

Always disliked Wout for the simple reason of he always appears to highlight his centre back partners downfalls when they make a mistake. The amount of times I’ve seen him get on a players back rather than encourage them is insane. Sign of a poor teammate who thinks he’s better than the rest.

This is it for me too.

And if he is out on the bench, I suspect he is a whiner and becomes a source of negativity in the dressing room. Coady sat out for a year yet still appears to be congratulating and encouraging teammates.

Mystified why many on here cannot see why Faes is country miles better than our other centre halves, and genuinely a good player?! I get it's a game of opinions, but...

If you partnered Daniel A. in the PL, you'd have to dive in a bit, no?

Not sure why Wout has become an easy scapegoat for some. He's clearly one of our very few assets.

You're right my friend,  it is a game of opinions (and you are entitled too yours)  but I for one don't agree with it.

The bloke is a brain farting bombscare, who unfortunately isn't anywhere as good as he thinks he is.

Like 'Super-Goalie' Ward, he's more of a hindrance than a help when on the pitch.  Both are liabilities.  Can we really afford both playing at the same time?

This is pretty much where I sit on Faes.  If he's the only liability in the team, we could afford to carry him as his other attributes can be helpful.  However, if Ward, Justin, Skipp, Ayew are in the 11, no way.

Any news on why he was out of the Squad? Is he injured? Not that I think he should be starting just a bit random to be completely dropped

Still say I’d like to see him played in front of the back four… with cover he’d win a lot of the ball, and the times he misjudges he wouldn’t be giving away a goal.

He’a actually tidy with the ball and can dribble (for a CB). Worth a 30 minute experiment as a Soumare replacement one game I think

Possibly… not sure he wouldn’t still have the odd brain fart that leaves us exposed though.

It’s actually quite likely that he does get a game there though, JJ can’t play every game at the intensity he’s expected to and there’s no other cover.

(At a rubbish level I was a CB, and sometimes covered at RB…. I always enjoyed it and thought how easy it was there!!!)

It's not that far removed from being the RCB like last season.  Tbh it's a fxxking farce trying to find a JJ alternative and end up turning to sideshow fxxking Mel!

NOT EVEN BOB!

But this is where we are.
