moore_94 Posted 6 November 2022 Posted 6 November 2022 (edited) Posted about this in the January 2023 thread haha Played every minute of every league game for Burnley so far this season, was on loan at Anderlecht and Stoke last season I wonder if this will be like last January where we tried to get Colwill even though he was on loan at Huddersfield Edited 6 November 2022 by moore_94 2 1
Jaspa Posted 6 November 2022 Posted 6 November 2022 Glover getting stuck in then. Walsh Sr. did the same to be fair, our Championship winning squad was often sourced from Man United's academy cast-offs; de Laet, James, Drinkwater - before them Michael Keane, Lingard - after we won it Simmo joined. Even at Hull, Walsh took a load of little Devils there too.... wonder whatever became of that Cameron Stewart lad ... (not alot) 1

Just comparing that similar strategy of recruiting and building a team from the same stock to what Walsh did here with Man U kids. 1

If I’m not wrong I think a lot of the Man City lads came after they’d replaced Glover with the lad from Man City 3
Claudio Fannieri Posted 6 November 2022 Posted 6 November 2022 Looks a real player, if we could get him would be a great addition

StriderHiryu Posted 6 November 2022 Posted 6 November 2022 Agree with @Jaspathis feels like Glover's doing and is highly believable for that reason. The only thing I will say about the "cast-off" strategy from bigger teams is that the players are sometimes overrated. Connor Gallagher had an outstanding season at Palace but has been pants for Chelsea and was anonymous against us for Palace. A lot of people rave about Southampton signing players like Livramento, Lavia, Bazunu, etc but are in the bottom 3. Iheanacho has had moments for us but Daka is the player we hoped Kelechi would be, etc. I suppose the difference is that Southampton's overall squad is a lot worse and perhaps they signed too many young players at once? But Leicester in the past seem to be experts at plucking players from other divisions and making a joke out of their transfer fee. All that said, this player has a good reputation and has played for England at every level. Vincent Kompany has taken him on loan twice already for Anderlecht and Burnley, which speaks volumes as to the type of player he is. 4

I'd be behind this type of signing for these exact reasons, especially as he has won plaudits on both loan spells. I think for Kompany to take him on twice says a lot about his attitude as well as his ability, as Kompany was consummate professional and a leader in addition to being a world-class CB. He's young, has a very high ceiling, and has equipped himself well at Championship level and a decent standard European top flight league. If we could pick him up for a decent fee then I'd be very open to it. There's far more upside than down, especially when you pitch him against some of our current CB options. If we could do something along the lines of the below to prep CB for next season - starting in the January window - then I'd be very content: KEEP - Faes (keep and promote into Captaincy group) - Evans (extend for another year) - Amartey (extend only if he's happy to keep being a rotation option) OUT - Soyuncu (sell in January if he does not want to extend or Rodgers does not want to use him) - Vestergaard (move on ASAP at minimal financial cost to us) IN - Another top-level young CB like Harwood-Bellis regardless of outgoings - Another first team CB should BOTH Soyuncu and Amartey be released/move on But for Faes we'd be in awful shape at CB, so if we get the opportunity to keep building and shuffle the pack with a potentially exciting signing like Harwood-Bellis, then we have to take it. 1

Don't think we be selling cags In January free to agree a contract with teams from abroad in jan
westernpark Posted 11 November 2022 Posted 11 November 2022 Don’t think he moves in January unless we offer silly money. Man City won’t want to risk upsetting Kompany, by recalling him.
