Well done Switzerland and congrats to Cameroon on a great win.

That’s a top result for the Swiss tonight. Serbia are a good side and I thought they’d win it tbh.

Embolo’s was a master class in centre forward play

Only in this world cup can you beat Brasil and not go through lol. Tough luck cameroon. Should have at least drawed against the Swiss. Sham

Some of the results in this competition are complete and utter coupon busters.

I'm not saying it's necessarily something malign (foreign betting syndicates?), and, in fairness, even before tonight's games, ITV's pundits were suggesting that the midwinter timing was messing with the form of usually sucessful countries, but it is very noticeable.

If they're so great, they should win.

Thought he was quite a bit older than 25.

Seems to have been around for a while.

How is it messing with the form? When the tournament is in summer they complain about players being tired after a long season. Now they complain again.

I maybe should have used the word "performance" rather than "form" when I tried to paraphrase the ITV pundits' explanation for the odd results.

The important thing, though, is that those countries are generally more sucessful than other countries, but at this World Cup many of them just aren't, and I was wondering why.

Apologies for any confusion caused by my clumsy phrasing.

Climate will play a part I’d imagine.

Mid season, so Premier League / Champions League players haven’t played 55 - 60 games as well.

yea I agree it must be that side of the continent as Crotia, Sweeden and Denmark play similar styles which is drab and boring

Bit harsh on Croatia and their slick passing centered around Modric. But have you seen Denmark's and Sweden's talent pools? England has a wealth of talent and bore just as much.
