It is brilliant out here. Everyone is friendly. Plenty of places to drink. Extremely well organised. Beautiful place. Great weather etc etc. So glad I took the plunge and got the Leicester flags on the screen.

Beautiful place?? Not going to criticise the other stuff, but i find there's something rather dystopian about Doha/Dubai/Abu Dhabi.

Unless your LGBTQ+ of course. That will get you murdered or imprisoned. Really friendly!

Someone's definitely not trying to justify to themselves why they've spunked £1000s on it.

I’d be interested to know of anyone who stayed out there for two weeks and whether boredom has become an issue.

An ex client went out there last Monday and came back yesterday. He’s enjoyed it  a lot but of course he would. Bright sunshine all day, top quality eating, abundance of beers, no ‘working class’ behaviour and pretty much go to any match you want given they’re basically begging people to take up tickets

Why are people getting upset at others who are there are enjoying it? Does it not fit your agenda that Qatar is a horrible place to go and this was going to be one of the worst world cups ever?

Mate this is the western world. We’ve built whole power and public diversionary systems on judging from afar. Have you never read 1984?!?! Most of the millions who are criticising Qatar have never and will never go anywhere near the Middle East.

But on a more serious note I’d have a good time literally anywhere in the world. Including Moscow about this time last year… doesn’t mean how they go about things is right. If you dropped me in Syria this weekend I’d have a belter for sure

I find it incredible the reaction of some.

Exactly this.

I feel like dropping the "Habibi, come to Dubai" advert.....might drop a few jaws.

I think it’s obvious why. People have died to put on this World Cup, yet because the privileged in society(context of the world) are enjoying it, it’s deemed a success.

Crikey. Each to our own of course but I have had a blast. And no I am not advertising for Qatar. I have witnessed nothing but great organisation, friendliness and enjoyed the experience

and have not met any other Brit out here that would say anything different. Agree it shouldn’t have been in Qatar in the first place, but it was. Agree they have rules and customs etc that are behind the western world.  However,  I report back from experience and not from media.

It’s also events like this which can act as catalysts for change in places like Qatar.

By all accounts the World Cup has been a massive success. Tough to take for some.

The infrastructure, the atmosphere in and around the stadiums, everything has been top notch. Main thing is the African and the Arab fans have taken centre stage and are treating it as their World Cup and boy are they making a good job of it. South Americans have latched on to it and embraced the culture, those who are out there from Europe have also had no choice but to think this is actually decent but those sitting at home on a cold December day in entitled England, whether that be on Foxestalk or watching BBC news with a can of stella in their hands are still adamant that it’s atrocious out there. They’ll even tell you they’re giving tickets away, the atmosphere is rubbish, people are sleeping in terrible conditions, the facilities are backwards, you can’t get a beer, they’re hanging people if they show flesh, they’re vetting homosexuals at passport control. These people are ostriches, that’s all I can say.

One thing that surely is a positive is that you wake up each morning, look at the headlines and it's about football rather than fans kicking ten bells out of each other!

Control places where you can drink and this is what you get.

Obviously I’m against lack of freedom over drinking alcohol or not, but on the other hand, getting absolutely leathered and fighting at football is also a massive failure of society.

Neanderthals throwing chairs and resorting to violence and treating people and the area they're in like sh*t.

That kind of stuff would be my guess.

Not only that, but there's absolutely zero tolerance for thick yobbo behaviour of any sort.

I've been to the middle east several times, and personally I was hyper aware of my own conduct when having a few drinks. Almost uncomfortably so.
