He's the most one footed midfielder I think I've ever seen.

Worse than Chilwell? (In terms of left footedness, not position)

Chilwell plays in a position where its not quite as detrimental.

KDH slows down a lot of moves because of it.

Away from the captaincy chat, glad he was honest about it and didn't try to sugar-coat anything about it.

Guess it helps that's he a fan of the club and it might hurt more, but I hope the same harsh truths were said in the dressing room too, and not just by KDH.

He should have his very own Honesty flag. Keiran Dewsbury Honest.

Simple. We play 442 when out of possession, using KDH’s engine to start the press with whoever is playing ST.

In possession we’re a 433/4231with KDH as a 6.

But yes, he was poor today, and after a breakthrough season last year, he’s regressed horribly, to look like the player who 2 years ago I could never see as a first teamer at LCFC

He didn’t seem to be in any position to influence the game when we had possession. He hasn’t got the engine, pace or striking ability that could suggest he’s a good fit in this 442 out of possession set up too.

Seen enough of him to know he's at the very worst a decent PL player, he's having that lull where he needs to not only refind what he's good at but show signs he can improve on his weaknesses too such as 1st touch, holding on to the ball too long and final pass.

You know a player has established himself here though when he starts getting criticised, the expectations are there and he needs to step it up.

Problematic post!

You have offered a measured view!  Thanks @Ric Flair

I read the first page of posts and nearly gave in.  KDH is a fantastic squad member.  He is not world class.    He is a very good player with a bit of b'stard about him.  His progression up the pitch is first class.

I would rather we saw Maddison as future captain but KDH as a motivational player.

This forum over-hypes, then dismisses.  A similar thing is happening with Thomas (younger, has convinced less than KDH but may come good). This forum has had posters dismiss just about every player in our team.

If KDH is not good enough,  it would mean we have a very strong team/squad

He’s fulfilling that role precisely because he has the engine to initiate the press and get back into midfield if the opposition beat the first press.

He’s quick enough for the press too.

But ‘striking ability’? I’m afraid you’re missing the point. He’s there to begin the press, not to play as a second striker.

Imagine if the player that began the first press actually had the ability to be a striker too though eh? That seems to be the model that most of the better teams use. Anyone can press. Every Newcastle player pressed and bullied us whatever position they played yesterday. KDH has not got that much pace and he didn’t display this engine yesterday or that much this season. He looked heavy legged, and was nowhere for Newcastle’s second goal.

Rodgers Press Conference

“That’s the first I’ve heard that. There was disappointment. Having waited so long, we were all looking forward to the game. Our prep had gone really well. But the players were naturally disappointed. We were due to have a day off but we came in and assessed it. We now need to get ready and prepare for the game on Friday. They have pulled the season around and that feeling of what Kiernan said is an emotion after the game. They have so much heart. It was probably a reaction to the disappointment.”

WTF - Has he gone into semi-hibernation for the winter.

Yes , that is true , certainly more than 50% anyway. Kids need coaching from day one to work extra hard on their weaker foot. Barnes has weaknesses in his game but he is very capable with his left foot and he must have worked at it.

Saw it in the World Cup. So many players prefer trying something with the outside of their foot rather than use their swinger. No end of chances went begging because players weren't comfortable on their weaker side. Given the amount of ball work that players do these days I'm amazed top level pros are so limited.

KDH is having one of those seasons. He's suffering in a poor team and naturally like any player the season after you earn a new deal your levels drop. His last decent game was Forest and his quotes in pre-season about adding an end product to his game are looking a bit hollow.

I don’t see the ‘bit of b’stard about him’ - to me he fits our current mould of a player who is too nice. We have absolutely no shithouses in this team. We can easily be bullied and he’s part of a midfield that allows this.

He’s a Man United fan from Nottingham. He’s a decent player, puts a shift in which is noticeable in comparison to the other midfielders and their playing style. I think he’ll get better, but shouldn’t be undroppable or a core member of the side yet.

With the exit of Tielemans, Mendy, Perez and probably Maddison and the age of Albrighton , he is definitely a core member.

But they’ve not left yet, and two of those wouldn’t play in his position. It’s certainly a possibility though with those suggested likely exits!

The inability to use his right foot is a huge problem when teams press us like that.

He’s a local lad so that’s buying a bit of slack but if we want to not be in relegation dogfights year in, year out, he cant be a starter.

haha
