I don't agree with Rudkin being in self preservation mode. I feel after the video of Brussel and the fan after Stevenage that big man Anthony (finally)came up with a "strategy" to "manage" the crisis. It's going well so far...

To carry on "the most aesthetically pleasing things in football" question. A few of mine:

  • When a keeper starts a counter attack. Not a little roll out to the left back, but a proper overarm 60-yard throw to the winger who's then through on goal.
  • A well executed overhead volley, back to goal, full stretch e.g Muzzy, Rooney, Bale etc
  • Adidas Predator Accelerator's '98
  • But my fave is playing in or watching a game on a big playing field where there's loads of other 11-a-side games going on. PARKLIFE!

Bang on! I think he saw a positive reaction (mainly) from a fan complaining being pushed back on, so he rolled out these two. But I think he was banking on two home wins from Peterborough and Doncaster so that the message they gave is somehow proof they are right and we are wrong all along!!

unlucky Anthony you absolute bellend!!!!

Was John Motson the commentator you were trying to think of?

Barry Davies, the absolute god of commentary. Utterly ashamed I somehow forgot his name.

To be fair to you it didn’t immediately jump into my mind.  Needed to hear the voice, but after I did it is unmistakably the voice of football growing up.  You tube threw this up when I searched his name… a fine example, and something that feels pretty rare (a game we won!)

A couple of mine:

- Goals where it is a low shot and the ball rolls all the way up the net to the roof of the goal.

- This one is a dying breed, but football grounds that are surrounded by terrace housing, especially when they are old grounds where the stands are different. Think Maine Road, Filbert Street, Goodison Park, Highbury, Highfield Road etc.

Aesthetic I like is November - January in the season, mainly applies to a 3pm, where the game starts in the daylight and finishes in the dark. Don't know why, something I like about it.

Yellow footballs is always the best part of the season.

I love it when there's snow that's been brushed off the pitch and it is all around the sidelines. Obviously playing with an orange ball ❄️☃️🥶🌨️

I was at that game, a much better and honest era of football. If only we played like that now.

And the Prime Ministerial Midfield, Ramsey, Wilson & Macdonald, after a shocking start (sound familiar) stayed up with ease.  Think that was the season Lineker, Lynex & Smith scored 50 goals between them too and the famous Green away shirt they never won in.

Not forgetting Ian Banks. Andy Peake. Gordon Milne did well until he lost Lineker to Everton. Lynex was also underated.

Aesthetically pleasing elements of football- the perfect knee slide celebration that stops at the end of the pitch is the equivalent of managing to cut wrapping paper by sliding the scissors.

Aesthetic Football Niches: it rarely happens now but I remember mainly in the 90’s and especially back at Filbert Street your mum or your nan would have the Sporting Green/Blue on a Saturday pre match. Once it had been read it was ripped up in to strips and then ripped again and brought to the game on a Saturday in a plastic bag. It would then be ceremoniously launched in the air when the players came out of the tunnel - ticker tape everywhere. Proper football vintage.
