Leicester man says Foxes will decide future in “coming days or weeks” – Manager ‘wants to continue’ working with player
By Naveen Ullal -25th April 2023

Leicester City’s Nathan Opoku has been on loan at OH Leuven since the winter market.

Earlier this month, the striker admitted he’s unsure of where he’ll play next season as he hasn’t heard from the Foxes or the Belgian club.

Four days ago, reports from Belgium stated Leicester won’t regret letting the 21-year-old continue at the Jupiler Pro League side. It was also explained Leuven manager Marc Brys is still to make a decision on the Ghanaian.

Het Nieuwsblad now state the ‘chances are increasing’ for the Leicester owned player to stay at Leuven for one more season.
Opoku is still not eligible to obtain a work permit to represent Leicester next season. This will increase Leuven’s chances of extending his loan deal.

In addition to this, Brys, who had expressed doubts a few weeks ago, is now ‘certain that he wants to continue’ working with the frontman next season.

Meanwhile, Opoku has revealed Leicester will make a decision on his future soon.

“I feel important here. Until now I was never better than now, but I keep learning and can do even better,” he said.

“Leicester will decide my future, but I certainly wouldn’t mind staying. I feel good here. The decision will be made in the coming days or weeks at the latest.”

The striker has managed three goals and an assist from seven games for Leuven.

This is what we need to be doing more of, we've got very sparse at the conveyor belt of possible talent. I said at the time when this lad signed that we have to take more risks and go through the churn of recruitment's. Placing players on loan to develop and obtain work permits if needs be, it's the most logical way of the model we supposedly practice.

Opoku looks a real find.

Haven't we got someone at our club that's been part of the Right to Dream set up? Hugely beneficial if so.

...is that not Deniche Hill, who plays left back for the U21s!!!

He looks better coming forward, like to see him on the left wing. Mirsad Ali is said to be a potential winger but he has'nt got the instincts to play in that position. Just watching him yesterday, he was continually facing his own goal,  irrespective of where he was on the pitch.

Sorry what I meant was we've someone working for us who was part of Right to Dream academy in the past (or so I've read) and that's why we identified Sowah and now Opoku. Someone's flagging maverick Ghanian youngsters to us that aren't locked down with Right to Dream, who tend to have the pick of them all.

You seem to watch/follow our other teams a lot…and give some decent feedback on players..

I thought we had some decent youngsters, but can you give us an idea of why this years academies have been struggling. ??
Our  first team potential like Baybrooke injured. Why haven’t we pushed a couple more forward ,a la Barnes ,KDH or even Choudhury….??
I only follow over occasional highlights,so I have no platform to build opinion.
would interest me from Academy followers some decent POV on situation..

...putting a finger on why we have been so poor this season, is not really difficult!!!

The most obvious is that the structure of the Academy is wrong, the coaches at the U21 level is working in a way that does not help to prepare those players, in their charge, to step up. A better person to give you an insight would be @Foxy-Lady who had a connection to the academy and seen the development process first hand.

We lost Braybrooke and Alves but we were still struggling even with them in the team. The fact that the team now had age appropriate players, and we now had over aged players no longer clogging up the team, having  been moved on, or were now out on loan, is also a major factor.

The team just have poor coaches, and looking at other clubs, it is clear they are developing players that also play like a team, as opposed to a development team.

Work permit won't allow it. He'll need to stay in Europe for longer. Hopefully not too long. We need strikers too.

What if we’re desperate?

He won't get a work permit, so no chance.

There's a good chance the rules are changing this summer.

Think he’s wank mate tbh probably getting released

OH Leuven lads I speak to don't think he's very good. Even for them.

I very much doubt he makes it here unless there's some massive turn around

Had a good half a season with them when he first joined

Then he was poor for pretty much the whole following season and then broke his leg

Can't see him being involved - will be loaned/sold/released
