I remember seeing some footage of Vichai and Top watching training down at Belvoir Drive with Sven trying to look relevant. That's when it became clear to me that he wasn't what we thought he was.

Went to read but apparently you have to be a 'Digital Member' to read stuff on there now?! Is that a new thing?

you just have to sign up... I thought it had always been that way?

The team of loanees was a good laugh for a bit in 10/11, went on a daft run before a loss at Cardiff (I think) and were shite after that. Was obviously crap given a full summer, dread to think what state we'd currently be in if Nige didn't swoop in to sort us out for the second time.

It was a beautiful mess, what a man. He had many faults did old Sven for club and country but I can't help but love him. Reminded me of my Grandad.

Some of the football we played in certain games was astonishing.

Watching that again, I thought.......good enough for the Premier League, not good enough for the Championship.

Great so see Yakubu in action again. Did any footballer ever move so little yet score so many goals? :D

Swedish Harry Redknapp. And that’s not an endorsement.

Redknapp at least used to sign some semi-obscure gems though, with Sven it felt like someone who had no knowledge of the English lower leagues and just signed big names who he and everyone else was aware of without any genuine scouting.

Like Matt Mills had a good game in the playoff final on tv so we equalled our club record signing to bring him in when every Reading fan who’d watched him for the previous 2 years said he wasn’t great.

We did have some good spells under Sven. I just felt the whole period had a bit of a circus feel to it. I did enjoy Yakubu though, what a player he was. Looked lazy as **** but he knew where the goal was. Had that rare ability to not look when he was shooting. Class.

Awful manager who was basically given cheat codes and still got nowhere near we needed to be.

It was exciting at the time he joined being linked with ridiculous names and getting a shout out in the national press. He's an absolute charlatan though, on the other hand, he was/is an absolute pulling machine, so got to give the man credit where it's due.

Yes Redknapp did sign some decent players. I just meant the lack of frugality regarding the club finances wherever they were at.

Whole club was in a bonkers period then. No direction from the very top all the way down.

Anyone else remember the two Thai blokes one in the home kit and the other in the away doing really dodgy streams of our games?

True but having said that, two massive  positives were that he did sign Schmeichel and Nugent who ended up being worth way more to us than the entire club’s transfer outlay under Sven when you consider how crucial both were in promotion and the great escape, then Schmeichel in the league and FA Cup winning sides.

I mean, it was definitely a bit of a fluke and a case of “even a stopped clock is right twice a day”, but boy, were those 2 right times worth it.
