I didn't want to say anything for fear of being laughed at, but my thought was England would get to 300-4 at stumps, still might be on.

Pieterson is on mute, but I assume he is having  a whinge about something.

Well, that's big. Lyon pulls up with a calf injury? Huge miss for Aus if they lose him for the rest of the test. Or even the series...

Massive, one thing England don't have is a spinner in Lyon's league.

Without him in the first test England win.

Guessing Murphy will come in for him, Kuhnemann is at Durham and Swepson at Glamorgan so either of those could also come in. Away from Lyon their options are still better than ours and could be the difference between winning and losing. If they even bother, might bring Boland back and give Head, Smith and Labuschagne some overs.

Why are they throwing it about so much? Just play the smart shots.

Especially with Lyon injured, the quicks can't bowl over after over at full steam and are likely to end up with a part-timer bowling.

From the BBC:

“This is the first time that all three of England's openers have scored 40 or more in an Ashes Test since the Oval in 1993, the third time since 1956 at home vs Australia”

We’ve had some good players in that time too (and some ropey ones !)

Sorry but did our batters all get together and sniff a load of glue at tea?

Dogshit. Never looked comfortable against the short ball, but kept on taking it on.

Bazball is all well and good, but for me, you can't just keep going at it, you have to temper your approach sometimes.

Brainless.

3 players played really well today but all forgotten because they've thrown it away with a ridiculous shot.

Aussies don't have to do anything. They'll get themselves out eventually.
