FOX HUNT

Leicester targeting ‘next Brendan Rodgers’ to replace Dean Smith with Foxes in Premier League relegation scrap

Alan Nixon

RUSSELL MARTIN will be top of Leicester’s wanted list this summer.

But that’s only if the Foxes go down to the Championship.

Dean Smith is trying to keep Leicesterin the top flight in a nail-biting relegation scrap.

But his long-term future at the King Power is uncertain.

And if Leicester have to start again, they have their eyes on the Swanseaboss.

Martin, 37, is seen as a "new Brendan Rodgers", who was sacked last month.

That is what the Foxes are looking for if they are in for a reset eight years after winning the title.

Swansea will want compensation for their highly-rated manager.

But Martin only has one year left on his deal, leaving the Welsh side with little room to manoeuvre.

In the meantime, Smith will make his own case for the hot seat by attempting to keep Leicester in the Premier League.

The ex-Aston Villa boss lost his first game to Man City.

But he has since beaten Wolves while drawing against relegation rivals Leeds and Everton.

Leicester’s next game sees them travel to Fulham on Monday.

The Foxes still have tough fixtures against Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham to follow.

Russell Martin one of those names who keeps getting promoted through the leagues and linked with jobs despite never seemingly winning promotion, getting in the playoffs etc.

What has he achieved?

Just plays football "the right way"?

On a serious note it is ****ing *mad* that Villa binned off their shit manager and showed real ambition by poaching someone from a club kicking about Europe's top table while we're going "yeah a 30% win ratio in the npower seems good get him in!"

****ing potheads at the very top of this club

91 league games in charge:

33 wins

25 draws

33 losses

123 goals scored

130 goals conceded

124 points

1.36 points per match - 63 points in a 46 game season

63 points in the last 5 seasons gets you 10th*, 14th, 11th, 12th, 13th

No thanks.

Very alarming isn't it. I really want a full clear out of our board and directors. Not that arsed if Top goes either.

Let’s hope this is just an agent trying to get a better contract.

Again, someone on here (apologies to whoever you are, I can't remember names) basically said we wanted Martin in months back. There's something in this, 100%.

Insomnia , soooo ……. If this is where we are at, I’m prepared to do the job. There will be little compensation - my company would probably quite like me to sod off. My expectations on salary are waaaaaaay below industry standards. I have no backroom team to bring, so overheads will be low. I’d only ask for a one year contract, so zero compensation. In fact, I can see absolutely no downside to it whatsoever ……… apart from being hopelessly lost tactically. But, to be fair, that didn’t bother any of our hierarchy for the last 18 months …. or the next if they are considering Martin. I’ll start updating my CV …
