I remember the only way to get the latest or final scores was if someone had a small transistor radio and you would strain to listen. There used to be a chap selling Leicester Mercurys at the corner of the exit by the double decker who shouted "All the halves" (meaning the half time scores) but you already knew these as the half times had been posted on the alphabet plates on the wall surrounding the pitch. We used to get down to the local newsagents on Saturday teatimes to buy the Sports Mercury (fondly known as The Buff because of its yellowish colour), which had a match report of City's match by Billy King/Jimmy Martin. There was always a much bigger queue if the City had won!

Ah yes the alphabet plates. That takes me back.  Another thing was midweek matches. Not living in Leicester it was torture trying to get the full time results. Many atime I would watch News At Ten waiting for Alastair Burnet or Andrew Gardner to read the results. As a boy I remember getting up in the morning to quickly scan The Daily Mirror for the result. By the way this is why I still read a newspaper back to front

I’m pretty sure during a tour of the KP the guy said there is something they do to turn off / scramble the internet connection. Can anyone confirm this as it was a few years ago for me

We done a stadium tour around 4 years ago and remember this being said by our guide. Whether its true or not is a different matter but once im within 50 metres of the King Power thats it for me.

Same. I’m literally back in the old days when at the KP,

I’ve tried Three, O2 and Vodafone. I assume anybody who gets signal must be on EE?

I'm on EE and I've have never had amazing signal at the KP. It is very hit and miss and around half time and either side it's next to non existent.

Each time a new 'G' comes out I think, 'Ok, NOW I'll get signal at the ground' - but NO. Not with 4G, 5G and nor 6G when it comes.

Interesting! Wonder if it's a security thing re: bombs.

I used to like the way the final scores came in on the videprinter. Particularly when it missed the S off Scunthorpe.

or if a team scored more than 5 it used to say 6 (Six) just to rub it in.

Still doesn’t feel that long ago that if we’d gone up town on a Saturday Afternoon, because it was an away game as only did home ones, that blokes would be seen congregating around the front window of Dixons watching final score

The Leicester Mercury had an empty area at the bottom of the back page for stop press news, always printed sideways on. Often in Saturday afternoon's late edition, you'd see something like:-

Stringfellow scored for Leicester City in the 88th minute.

Stringfellow scored for Leicester City in the 90th minute.

Happy days!

Thats right it was Dixons! Next to Smiths on Gallowtree Gate!

Many an hour spent outside Dixons or equivalent waiting for the scores on Ceefax. So annoying if it skipped the page you wanted and you had to wait for the cycle to go around again.

I was EE, no signal, now O2, no signal. Hoping someone with a carrier pigeon can send the scores in.

They block it so you can’t live stream the game.

I might become one of the weirdos that we get down there and have a little radio and earphones.

I might also knit a filbert fox teddy

Nice badge mate... hope your lot win on Sunday!

In the early 90s my friend worked in Prague. Often the only way to get the scores was waiting for an English language paper and they were usually a day late.

So to know the result from the Saturday game he'd have to wait until after work on Monday!

There are probably worse examples in more remote places.

Nipping into the bookies in town to have a quick look at Final Score.

When abroad, I was sometimes too scared to ask about the Leicester score. I can't really recall the logic. Went into an Irish bar once in Germany, we were playing Sheff Wednesday at home....'you know any of today's scores mate? Yeah, who you after?....Sheff Weds....sorry pal, lost 3-1. Yesss! 😂'
