it wasn’t Justin out of position for their goal, it was Faes. He was out wider than Justin was. They saw the gap and exploited it.  They did the exact same thing in the 4th minute too, oldest trick in the book. Pull the CB out of position and exploit the gap. Then the one scrambling to  cover the gap gets the blame.

His body position was too square, I didn’t say he was out of position.

Sorry, Justin said that? Pretty damning on the manager, and explicitly as well.

And that's been a problem since Cooper arrived, Players not prepared to start the game in the right frame of mind.

As a Manager it's your job to switch them on to the game and pump them up.

O'neill, Pearson, Ranieri were all good at getting the right attitude into the players for games.

I don’t think Justin has been half as bad as people have made out. Defensively he’s actually done just fine.

I understand the frustration with the side at the moment but i’d say Justin is the least of our issues.  Of course ai agree Ricardo should be starting but i’d be saying that about just about anyone in the squad so it’s not exactly justin’s fault.

to an extent, but how much should a manager need to get you ready for a home game against a relegation rival that had lost all 4 previous games? You should be self motivated for a game like this, these aren't kids they are experienced pros.

It would make me, as a manager question if they are the right people though

I think he's been poor defensively but also persistently giving the ball away. His positioning at times is very suspect also. Squad player at very best.

in his defence, he’s had a lot to do. We’ve been boxed in in every game we’ve played for large parts of the game, or stretching to chase a game to get back in it.

He’s done more defending in this handful of games than most teams will do in half a season.  I think it would be a bit harsh to say he’s not good enough in that regard when we’ve somehow not rolled over in a game yet.

I’m not necessarily saying he’s played well but I think a different team approach would have made him look a lot better.  If you spend 80% of game scrapping to survive you are going to make a fair share of gaffs :dunno:

It's a matter of getting the players focused. To do that you have to get into their heads a little while talking up or down the opposition depending on what suits the occasion.

You have to build it as a big game,  Otherwise players treat it as just another game and you get a lacklustre performance. Which is the way we've started all games so far.

Agreed.

Most of the goals have come for his and Faes side of the defence.

It's not his fault and he has put some decent blocks and last minute tackles in.

I think if riccy came on as a sub or played at least one game we wouldn't be as critical.

I think we’d concede just as many chances but with riccy you know that he brings something going forwards. Having Ayew and justin against a 38 year old, bird sh*t eating, Ashley Young should be a sackable offence.

Im fine with a fatawu justin combo but if ayew has to play, we need an attacking fullback

Faes is terrible for this. His positional play is so bad.

I’m not sure he should be criticised for saying this, I find it refreshingly honest and true.

It’s not Justin who should warrant any criticism for these comments.
