To be fair, wouldn’t you. It’s not as if he’s blurted out his side of any story. Circumstances have meant management and some fans have ripped him a new asshole.

Always back yourself. I would not be surprised if there is more to the winks story than we currently know. It’s odd most fans back Ruuds side.

Fans could see there was something wrong with Winks in the games he played before he got frozen out. He wasnt applying himself, kept pulling out of challenges, kept making stray passes to the opposition and was generally playing really badly.

The last game Winks played was that 4-0 against Everton, it was clear Winks needed a push to try and get his performances to u-turn. Ruud tried to do that by telling him to stay locally, Winks didn't go along with it, Ruud froze him out.

It's completely reasonable from Van Nistelrooy, he couldn't continue playing Winks in the form he was in at the time, it needed a change or for him to be dropped. I dont care if there's any nuance to the story, maybe Van Nistelrooy said some things that didn't need to be said but the point still stands that Winks desperately needed to get into gear at the time.

I may have missed this but can anyone confirm if Winks was booed or received any backlash from the fans which has led to his on pitch demeanour this season? Or is this a club issue, which goes beyond Ruud, especially when you consider Ruud has been sacked.

IIRC at the time of Coopers sacking didn’t Top read the squad the riot act in regards to their behaviour and attitude and stated the club needed the next appointment to work as couldn’t afford to make further changes, perhaps Winks as a senior player and one of the leadership group, was not stepping up in the clubs eyes.

There is definitely more to this than Winks having the arse with a fanbase that largely claps off players regardless of performance or attitude.

Rubbish. His one child has only just been born so school isn’t an issue at all! Even if he was allowed to live where he wants because of extended family it’s incumbent upon him to be where he’s wanted and at the time required!

Likewise, in such a job as his, it’s not unreasonable for him to be asked to stay in the equivalent of a 5 star hotel overnight once a fortnight to save travelling and be fresh to do his job properly as well as team bonding issues. He’s being paid £80,000+ a bloody week for Christ's sake the big selfish baby! I wasn’t earning half of that a year and I managed it with 2 kids, travelling to different parts of the country with extended hours and overnight stops. It’s what normal people do to earn a living let alone any loyalty to the job. I don’t know why people try to make excuses for the pampered little shit!

Somehow you missed the main point, and went on an emotional spin. Winks may have it written in his contract to drive from home. If he is being asked to do something outside an agreement, then he is well within his rights to say no. Simply, we just don't know for sure. I'm not even a Winks fan. This isn't an excuse, its just alternative view. Relax man. Have a Kit Kat perhaps.

I think it’s highly likely that when Winks joined he was told he could commute from home, then RVN came in and tried to change the agreement at the precise moment Winks needed to be at home more because his wife has just given birth. Then to make matters worse, somebody at the club deliberately leaked what should have been a private matter to the press.

Most people would be pretty pissed off if their employer behaved like that. His reaction was very normal.

The issue I have with Winks isn’t to do with his alleged falling out with Ruud regards staying over one night a week, as we don’t know all the facts surrounding it, however 2nd half of the championship season when our form dipped, I felt he really dropped off and I didn’t see him taking games by the scruff of the neck, he almost came across as a flat track bully.

Then last season he seemed to throw in the towel under Cooper pretty much straight away and his performances for the majority of the season were well below the levels expected for a player earning big money and regarded as one of the senior leadership team.

I find his demeanour this season odd to say the least, for a player to not celebrate and give the impression he has the arse with the fanbase when he spent most of last season missing in action or not included is a bit of a piss take, if he had given 100% in every game and been decent then I could understand it especially if he felt his treatment from the fans was unjust, but too be honest like most of the squad from last season, they got off lightly when it could and should have been a lot more toxic.

For me demonstrates a entitled and weak mentality happy for the adulation when everything is going well but doesn’t like to take responsibility or accountability when it’s going wrong, sums up the culture of the club at the moment.

100 per cent this

I totally agree

Gargantuan levels of incomprehensible forgiveness in this thread...

First half injury v Chelsea

Copenhagen a few hours later u- Enzo we miss you

Babygate

Aperol Spritz

non celebration of goal under "clean slate" manager

Is this the kind of leadership we need at our club?

A lot is forgivable when the alternatives are Skipp, Soumare and Choudhury.

The real issue here is our lack of recruitment

But our lack of recruitment is a direct result of the squad being stuffed with immovable mediocrities like the ones you mention and of course Winks...

He’s been told he can’t leave the match early to miss the traffic back to London

To be fair, he's sitting on the bench. That's a lot closer to the exit than many of us towards the back of the stands!

What about the likes of Schmeichel, Drinkwater, Simpson and the other who lived in Cheshire or wherever it was and commuted everyday?

Or is it different because they won stuff and have a "legacy" at the club?

Well the obvious answer would be, there was no question that the commute was affecting their performances.

My boss doesn't care what I'm doing with my time if I'm getting the results. If I wasn't, then she'd start looking at what I was doing every day.

Having said that, it's clear that the entire squad's performances under Ruud probably had a lot more to do with Ruud than how far they were driving to be coached by him...

Fans video came in showing the players walking over to the fans to clap them, Winks appears to have completely ignored the fans and walked straight down the tunnel (on the other side of the ground) on his own.

Not sure if he was near the away end and maybe went over first before the video starts, but if he's just walked straight down the tunnel alone we probably need Marti to be having a proper discussion with the player, doesn't look good at all.
