Maybe I'd had too many beers, but I'm not sure why he's getting so much criticism. He's streaky as you'd expect from a winger and I really feel he's the least of our problems.

Lost the ball a lot as he tried to take on defenders. Bad miss when it was 0-0 just before Barkley's goal.

Hes inconsistent these days and perhaps needs some competition/break out of the side but thanks to terrible transfer business and a lack of a clear plan we haven't been able to replace him and give him a break. Agree he's not a big problem but when you need effective wingers, he's not doing much.

Oh the difference 50 pages make.

People last season to quick to label him a world beater. When let's be honest from his showing so far in the prem the championship is about his level.

As others have stated, he’s not quick and that often pans out in how he plays in matches.

His hold up of the ball whilst at times last season could be down to him being doubled up against, you can’t lay that at his door this one.

I think he’s ok even at this level as a squad player but if he’s your starting winger with no quality on the other flank, add it to the multitude of reasons we are in the bottom 3.

I'm genuinely staggered people thought he was going to excel at this level. He's far too limited and being in his mid 20's having played lots of top flight football, would probably highlight why nobody took a punt on him.

Absolutely expected him to be better and good enough for what we needed, maybe a mid table winger or rotation option for a top 10 side, but never thought he would tear it up.

I actually think his decision making is poor, when, to pass, shoot or take them on, he more often than not picks the wrong one, he’s got confidence issues & drifts in and out of games too much.

If he ditched the short adjustment thing, he’d be more productive :P

Basically another Gray isn’t he. “Appears” to have a mental attitude he’s a top player yet fails to show any of those attributes.
people talk about his defensive work rate but he actually makes little real effort to tackle or block once he is in position

At this level, for me, he would be a very good back up option. Unfortunately, LW isn't as big a problem position as other areas of the park but IF we were to stay up, I'd like to be starting next year with a better LWer ahead of him.

I'm not sure who would want to be a winger in the PL. Fans expect you just to be strolling past defenders with ease as if you are playing mid 90's sensible soccer. The reality is that even the very best get a tiny number of legitimate chances to do that a game. Even Foden did fek all against us in the PL.

Stephy does need to be more clinical (and should be hitting the target with that first chance), but in the overall picture he is about as clinical as you would expect a £6mil winger to be.

I think he will get better, but probably needs more chances to get more output.

He's ok but we need to upgrade in his position, his competition is Kasey, Bobby Reid and Ayew.

He's one of those players that if he starts poorly you know he's only going to get worse.

I appreciate he got the goal yesterday but he largely stank the place out

Another position we requrie a serious upgrade in

Quite a few people last season saying he was better than Barnes lol

Don't think he's anywhere near as bad as people are making out. He's clearly experiencing a crisis of confidence and like any winger when that happens you end up looking like a donkey. Barnes was no different at times. When he wasn't on it he was awful at this level.

Mavididi is a bigger threat than Perez ever was and yet he somehow managed to carve out a relatively decent PL career for himself.

You can see in his performances it's a confidence issue as he's turning back in situations where the full back is caught flat footed rather than pushing the ball beyond them and getting the run on them.

So long as RVN sticks with him he'll come through this patch and when he does he'll have be on fire for a period of time.

He's probably not and also not as good as people claimed last season.

Go skim through the first few pages of this topic.

I would say he found his optimum level last season. This season is one step to far up the ladder.

lmao crisis of confidence, what you mean is the premier league defenders kick his ass not the other way round.

He`s a kid being paid several million a year to kick a ball around a few times aweek, if that doesn`t insipe you then your attitude is garbage.

Personally i think he could be much better , but at the moment far too lazy
