I couldn’t believe we gave him a 3 year deal, but most on here seemed over the moon with it.

He’s terrible at the level.

Needs to be sold ASAP in Jan so RVN does not even need to think about selecting him.

Can we stop asking him to pass the ball more than 5 yards? Same for Facu now that I think of it

Why select a player for that important role when we are concerned with his passing, or positioning, or keeping the ball, or not breaking down play, or making himself available for the pass?

Just drop him.

He was terrible today. He made Soumare did all the work. Then Skipp. He made them look bad because he was way off from receiving the ball, strolling about 30m away or behind an opposition player. Sick of seeing this now that it has been like this for 4/5 years now.

Cast your mind back to the Covid game when we beat Liverpool 3-1 at home. Wilf was an absolute colossus.

For the past few seasons he has been an embarrassment. What on earth happened?

Teams just worked out how to play us. Press and give us no room then we need Enzo like tactics by having more players in an area to pass through the press. Can’t do that when one of them is constantly absent, breaks down play or bounce passes to his teammates at bad speed/awkward angle.

As the previous poster said no one wanted him so he came crawling back to Leicester I remember

Typical of us though to offer him another deal. He should of been released.

He may not be as good as he once was, but in attack he's top of our assist charts and 2nd in through balls played. In defence he's the top tackler and 2nd for interceptions and headed clearances, and yet he's the problem. It would be interesting to see if he doesn't play and we use 2 of Soumare, Winks or Skipp. I think alot will realise just how important Ndidi still is to our team.

Think we were all a bit surprised when Ndidi was given MOTM last night, but I’ve taken these tables from the Wyscout match report, the considerable difference we had as a team in duels compared with 1st half and 2nd half is staggering, but I wanted to particularly highlight Wilf who was a considerable difference maker in terms of his defensive work compared to the rest of the team, dare I say it, elements of his performance were peak Wilf…

0-D24909-F-8-E93-4-CB2-B94-B-3-D5337505-
From a 41% duel win rate first half, to a 50% duel win rate second half, with a noticeable difference between 46-60 minutes. A perfect indicator in how things improved for Ndidi in the second half, he and Soumare looked so much stronger as a pairing.

D0-C9-D8-F9-E726-4778-87-FC-374-A43384-D
He won 76% of his defensive duels, of the starting 11 he was the best in this metric.

38-CABAEE-5-E99-4-B5-C-AC5-E-FA4-B4-F025
Also made the 2nd most recoveries.

F47-CC54-B-E6-C3-46-AF-BAF3-741-AC7-A4-C

While he won 79% of his ground duels, the best of our starting 11.

Maybe just maybe, Van Nistelrooy can get Ndidi back to what he does best, last night proved a great starting point.

I thought both NDiddi and Soumare were excellent last night. Both winning the Ball back many times and creating attacks. That's despite being overrun by WH players in the fisrt half.

Soumare covered so much ground and is beginning to settle into the team. They not only defended well but offered themselves into space to receive the Ball, retaining possession and starting attacks.

A lot to work on but a good start by Ruud and a few signings should make us better in January.

There was a considerable difference of the Ndidi & Soumare combo from first half to second, personally I thought both struggled in the first half, overran as you say and looked a bit lost at which players to track, 51% of West Ham’s attacks came through the middle of the pitch last night.

Second half they looked two totally different players, far more compact defensively, won duels and Ndidi especially did the dirty work superbly.

Is this partnership sustainable going forward? With how Van Nistelrooy wants to play I’d have to say no.

But nevertheless, we saw elements of peak Wilf last night, while Soumare was much improved in the second half.

The problems in the fist half was mostly created by El Kanousse particurlarly but also Facundo not tracking back to help out while Wilf Soumare and especially VK were overrun by WH.

Neither El Kanousse or Facundo are defensive minded players they're young and still learing the game. But that will come with good Coaching.

I think it's a partnership that can work for many reason. They're both strong, Win Headers, Cover ground quickly and can pass the Ball once they keep it simple.

Second half Wilf and Soumare sat a bit tighter in front of the defense in a 4:2:4 formation. With El Kanouse and Facundo dropped into the Channels cutting out a lot of Balls and even starting attacks at times.

I think we'll see a similar setting when Winks is back, But instead of Winks sitting deep I'd play Winks in front of Wilf and Soumare with Facundo and El Kanousse alongside Winks taking the game to the opposition. But also leaving the Full backs sitting in to defend first putting an end to all the room they were leaving behind themselves as thay tried ti carry out what Cooper wanted.

Cutting down on Goals against leads to Points which is what we need right now.

There's still a lot of work to be done on the Training ground but I feel last night was a good start to the future of how we might play under Ruud.

I had given up on this season under Cooper but now I'm excited to see how Ruud improves us going forward  but also the signings in January and the Summer Windows.

We need him back as quickly as we can. I admit, I think I take him for granted sometimes and it feels like I've been taught this lesson before when he's been out.

He sometimes looks like he isn't having a great game but I think he must cause the opposition midfield so many headaches just with his presence.

Also means Skipp will be no where near the team

That's the more worrying thing

Anyone know when Wilf is due back?

We desperately miss his physicality in midfield. That 2nd half last night (vs Palace) was so passive and disappointing. It was right up there with some of the worst 45mins I’ve seen from us in the last couple of seasons. Just like the Wolves game a couple of weeks back, in these massive relegation 6 pointers we’re struggling to win our midfield battles and turn the screw on teams.

Winks seems to be suffering a dip in form too, but fortunately Soumare’s performance upturn has been a welcome surprise. Skipp continues to disappoint and Choudhury probably isn’t quite at the level we need. Having Wilf back is huge for us, just a shame he quite injury prone nowadays.
