If that’s the case I’m happy to see him gone. I understand his reasoning, but ultimately we learned last year that we need more team players.

If he’s not even willing to play a slightly different role (only difference is not being able to overlap) for the better of the team then that tells you all you need to know.

I am surprised he’s speaking this way however, despite Bologna having an option to buy, ultimately he’s still under contract with us. Not a good look on his behalf for me.

He more than likely also has an eye on the national team.

Being played out of position will hurt his chances of breaking into the first XI.

Ambitious lad with lots of confidence. Joining us in Jan last summer he probably realised it was a toxic place and wanted out.

Fair enough, though I'm disappointed it hasn't worked out for him.

I hear you, flip side to that though is it could of further benefited him as he would be more versatile as an option of a left back and left sided centre back.

So it doesn’t matter whether Kristiansen could be used in the Doyle role or not, he didn’t want to.

“I needed to change teams” – Player immediately asked agent for Leicester exit after chat with Maresca

As Leicester City loanee Victor Kristiansen today had a word with the Italian media, he had something interesting to say about his time with the Foxes.

This summer, the left-back was sent to Bologna, and claimed that the relegation to the Championship is actually not the only reason why he left the English club.

In quotes relayed by Bologna Sport News,Kristiansen was first asked about his choice to make the move. He explained he wasn’t feeling comfortable at Leicester City since the arrival of Enzo Maresca, and due to the lack of chances of playing in his natural position, he preferred to leave the Foxes.

“When Leicester changed manager they wanted me to play as a central defender, but I preferred to continue playing in my role,” said Kristiansen.

“I told my agent that I needed to change teams to be a full-back. Bologna arrived offering me a nice project. The first match was good, we won which is the most important thing and played a good match.”

The fullback also recalled his arrival at Leicester City, claiming he’s still glad he made that choice to get some experience in English football.

“It wasn’t easy. I went to Leicester to play in the Premier League even though the team were in a bad position in the standings, and in fact were relegated, but I couldn’t say no to the English championship. At the same time, I’m grateful for this period because it made me stronger. Now I’m very happy to be in Bologna.”

Kristiansen was signed by Leicester City on a €14m move from FC Copenhagen in January 2023. He only made 14 appearances before leaving the cub this summer.

The 20-year-old is now loaned to Bologna until the end of the season, with the Italian side holding a buying option over him.

Interesting that Enzo asked him to play as one of the centre backs rather than saying you play left back so leave. We know VK was saying he wanted to stay so I don't think anyone can doubt he wanted to. I don't think anyone can blame him for wanting to stay as a left back so getting a move. It's better than those who didn't want to play in this division after getting us in this mess.

I don't think playing as a wide centre back would have been beyond him or something he should have been worried about though. I think we will revert to a 4 a lot this season too.

Centerback is a position where Denmark have plenty of depth though. I see your point, but my guess is that VK also had a chat with Hjulmand about his situation here and likely was told it was best if he got regular football in his preferred position.

I think his reasons are absolutely fair enough, can’t believe there’s some on here saying it shows an attitude problem :dunno:

I do wonder how different we’d be looking if Enzo brought most of his ideas but stuck with a more traditional (in a positional sense) back 4. So with Ricardo and Kristiansen at full back and Doyle LCB and another at RCB. I definitely don’t think Doyle is thriving from this system. I think we’d be a better unit defensively. How much it would affect our attacking style I don’t know. Ricardo would be just as useful going forwards in a wider position as in this inverted role though that is clear due to his class and he’s often marauded forward through the middle anyway so I still don’t think binning the left back position has been very necessary.

Bologna already trying to get us to reduce his option to buy clause from €15m

That's probably a compliment to be honest.

15m is ridiculous, it was always prohibitively expensive for them I'm not sure how anyone ever thought Bologna were going to stump up 15m for a full back.

This shows they've a genuine interest in him at a level they can afford.

Bologna aren’t gonna pay that unless they get into the Top Four.

He will be back here next summer.

Would have been perfect for the left back/lcb role but attitude was wrong.

i could see him coming back in, but not great on the ball for the PL

I'll bite, seeing as you clearly know VK better than himself.

What was wrong with his attitude?

If he's doing well enough for them to be trying to negotiate after 5 appearances , surely they wont be the only ones impressed with him..

Stand firm on this one, i say

he liked winning and demanded more from the people around him. That didn’t fit the clubs mandate last year

He had way too much personality to be a hit with Brendan

I think he's alluding to not wanting to play a different role when Maresca came in

Yes, he meant that. But i recall a poster saying that maybe the role wasnt sold to him well enough. A manager can't always expect blind faith. They have to be skilled salespeople too.

Edit, it's a shame. His energy at lcb in the season so far would've been great. His loss. Ours too. Od like to think we could try to reintegrate the lad next summer

Yeah I like Kristiansen, just pointing out he wasn't referring to his attitude when he arrived

Hamza has adapted to Enzo’s requirements, as has Vestergaard, so why can’t Victor adapt in the long run?

Not sure how that equals bad attitude. To me that's a fantastic attitude. He's not wasting his time or the clubs time.

Much rather that than someone content to sit and collect a wage while their career stagnates.

I mean for me, he was a young lad, taking a step up, moving to a new country new city new teammates, had his manager change. It might have been all a bit too much for him maybe It was probably sold to him as he would be a LB or CB Thats not to say  he cant adapt and grow as he gets older. But it was a lot of changes in a short space of time.

I think it will come good for him and maybe a year of just playing a position he knows will  help him to grow.

He didn't say bad attitude he said wrong, also I'm not agreeing anyway  I'm just pointing out what he's on about
