15m euros? Is that what we paid for him? Hopefully be money up front that can be used in the next window if he goes permanently. Most likely won't be though.

I think we paid about £17m / €20m for him

Good enough for Sevilla and the Champions League, but not good enough for many fans of Championship Leicester City 😂

He was Rodgered. Fans slammed him just after a few matches here and there while he never got a consistent run. Never understood that.

I thought he had a few excellent displays nonetheless including when Dean first came in.

He is probably not the Enzo type of player but a very decent player nonetheless. If Enzo can turn Ndidi into an attacking midfielder, imagine what Enzo could do with Soumare who has much better ball control and good passing ability in him.

Don't go acting all clever on this. He was dire for the majority of his time here. If Sevilla want him, that's great news.

Equally it proved my point:

😂

I do see your point. I just know I watched him play over 40 times for us and almost all of them were miserable.

I know we have players that have improved under Enzo, but the improvements are relative to the level we're playing at now. I imagine Soumare would be doing OK if he was still with us in this league too. Not 100% sure where he fits in this system but he probably could have adapted.

Definitely the right decision to get rid though.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/club-determined-sign-leicester-city-man-proven-valuable-acquisition/

Sevilla are ‘already considering’ activating the purchase option they have on Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré after his impressive early performances at the club.

That’s according to El Sevillista, who say the Spanish side are determined to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis and not lose him.

Soumaré joined Sevilla on a season long loan deal from Leicester in the summer, joining the list of players to leave the Foxes following their relegation last season.

That loan deal includes an option for the deal to be made permanent for €15m and Sevilla are now ‘determined’ to activate it.

According to the website, Soumaré’s ‘excellent performance’ against Arsenal in the Champions League this week was one of several this season and he’s more than proven to be a ‘valuable acquisition’ for the Spanish cub.

He’s ‘generated positive expectations’ and as a result Sevilla are already considered exercising the purchase option that they have on him.

His ‘skill and solidity’ in midfield have become ‘fundamental’ to the team and Sevila are now ‘determined’ to ensure he remains and doesn’t return to Leicester at the end of the season.

Whether that means they look to buy him early, in the January transfer window for example, or wait until next summer remains to be seen but it seems they’re keen on using that clause either way.

There’ll still be some clueless binbags on here insisting he’ll come good.

You’re the clueless Bombay because it already looks like he has come good. I mean…  a starring performance in the champions league against Arsenal. ..

Take it, 15 million euros is roughly what we have amortisation-wise for his transfer.

Getting reduces the amount we have amortised for transfer on our books in 22/23 we had around 63m transfer amortisation, it is now down to around 40m (23/24) and goes down to 30m next summer.

Moving him on knocks another 4m a season off, bringing it down to around 26m, which gives us lots of wriggle room if we go up to strengthen the squad.

Keeping players with one for in and one foot out of the camp is why we got in this mess in the first place.

This just makes it even worse for me. Part of an absolute disease to this club that set in and I'll never forgive players like him. Well rid.

could it not just be that Rodgers was a disaster if a manager the last couple of years and that Rodgers was the rot that set in?

In some cases definitely (see Ndidi)

But Soumare made no positive impression whatsoever. It's a miracle he's been picked up by Sevilla

Ultimately he was shit whenever he played bar the odd flash of quality. I'm not sure even I could blame Rodgers for the fact that he "ran" like he was in treacle. I'm sure he'd be good enough for "Championship Leicester" but he's out on loan until the end of the season by which we hope to be "Premier League Leicester" again. It's been proven that he wasn't good enough last time round. Why flog a dead horse when we can sell and invest in a player that Enzo wants.

Some signings just don't work. We need to move on.

Was Rodgers to blame for everything?

Surely the players should take some responsibility for their performances?? Professional pride 'n all that.

There is a difference between Soumare and other midfielders we’ve had in recent years.

Players like Mendy, Ndidi and even KDH have limitations, but you can see what they’re good at and what they’re not so good at.

I was always totally confused with Soumare. Wasn’t strong enough in the tackle to sit in front of the back four. Doesn’t pass the ball particularly well. Not creative enough to play as an attacking midfielder.

The closest definition to what he should be is box to box. He very rarely carried the ball reasonably well, but most of the time just lost it or took a poor decision. His positioning was also atrocious and he got caught out of position far too often.

I just don’t know what he brings and bemused at what others might have seen in him. My only reason for keeping him is the Vestergaard redemption curve, under Meresca, has made me question everything and assume that anything is possible. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t even give a second thought to moving him on.

that’s not true. He had a couple of good games.  That why we were so annoyed when he didn’t play well most of the time, because we knew he had it in him..

yes lol

but seriously, he’s responsible for making the players unhappy. And for being a donut

Considering the fact he has gone out on loan to a champions league team it’s probably worth not risking it and selling and it’s definitely not worth risking it from the players point of view. But when you consider just how phenomenal he was in those couple of games when Dean Smith came in and he was genuinely unplayable, then you look at the transformation Wilf has had having moved away from Rodgersball to Enzos system, part of me does wonder “what if” we had not managed to loan him out, in those couple of games he turned up he was absolutely outstanding, he was everywhere.

But all in all it’s not a gamble us or the player should take and wish him well, it did seem like the premier league didn’t suit him in general.

Ndidi's gooch has more effort and application in it than Soumare

Spartak away he was generally considered to have had a good game. Thought he was good against Wolves at home last season. Also had a very good second half against Bournemouth after being absolutely awful in the first half. So yeah, he's had about 2 and a half good games in a Leicester shirt. Not a lot to go on really.
