First thing that jumps out at me, purely looking at the polygons, is that his pass completion was shit last time he was at this level too and he still stood out.

It obviously sticks out like a sore thumb the way we play and with some of the players around him but you probably do just have to accept it's a flaw in his game that's covered by other strengths.

Tackles is pretty abysmal though.

Still, whilst this is curious, it's incredibly early days and the sample size is prone to significant skews. The Coventry game alone is still probably enough to have him in some of the top percentiles for attacking stats amongst Championship cms.

Just needs to up his passing game, and he'd be a serious attacking midfielder.

Before this season, I had him more ear-marked for the traditional number 8 role, but get those passing stats up and he's a number 10

We can forgive him the “aerials won”, but passes complete v passes attempted?

Let’s just say that it highlights an: “area for improvement”

which on face value is absolutely true, but I guess it also depends on the "difficulty" of the Pass that he is attempting to make.   Mendy had a great pass completion percentage, but his passes very very rarely broke the lines and created chances.  IF KDH is attempting to make difficult passes to create goal scoring opportunities and they aren't coming off, then i'd much rather he carried on doing that rather than making a safe pass for the sake of a safe pass.

for the record, i'm not saying the above is the reason for the stats,  it's an example of where raw stats without context can give a misleading picture.

If he could learn to play with his right foot the passing success percentage would increase drastically.

He can pick a wonderful pass when he has time (see the one to McAteer on Friday) but is too easy to stop when closed down as he is so one footed.  From trapping the ball, running with the ball, and passing, it is all on his left foot which limits him so much.

It’s very normal for players like him to have poor pass completion as they play risker balls, KDB Is in the bottom 8%.

I wouldn’t even say KDH has fully got going at all this season despite showing some real quality in games. He’s got so much more in there and I’m convinced he’ll have a huge season his season. This left sided number 8 roll couldn’t suit him more.

Very true.

All of these things highlight the danger of relying purely on statistics. They don’t replace entirely observation with the naked eye.

I quite like KDH, generally, but there are clearly issues that he needs to iron out if he wants to reach the next level: the level of a consistent PL capable player.

His inability to land simple passes is infuriating. Has to be a concentration thing as it's the simple things he gets wrong.

Thread a 40 yard through ball through a tiny gap? No problem.

Lay a ball off to your team mate 5 yards away? Do what now?!

The other thing he really struggles with is his first touch, which isn't reflected anywhere in these stats.

In tighter games in which we're trying to make space, I'd be dropping him for someone more comfortable with the intricate stuff in the middle of the park. It's absolutely central to opening space. We can't carry someone fumbling their first touch and giving the ball away every time they get it when we're up against an organised block, it just gives them time to regroup.

He's not the only culprit and last season it was almost routine for the team.

I think the key is time.

He had lots of time to play that pass to Kasey on Friday which made it significantly easier.

When things are tight and quick in the middle and you are under pressure and/or off balance, even the short lay-offs become difficult.

Only the really technical make that look easy on a consistent basis - KDH isn't really in that bracket. Winks is much better at it, but you notice he comes unstuck occasionally when he's under real pressure.

He has the game at this level that means stattos will fawn all over him. If by the end of the season he has 20 goals and assists then great,if he doesn't then for me he's not been at the level he should do.

Is he perfect? No, no player is. If he could consistently play dangerous forward passes unerringly, he wouldn’t be playing for us.

Players have to be judged on their aggregate strengths and weaknesses, KDH is a good player that makes things happen - the FT hivemind has unrealistic expectations of players.

The ‘raw’ scout report says it all, he’s too good for this division.

It's not an unrealistic expectation for me to believe a midfielder should be able to pass well, especially at second tier level and in one of the best teams in that division.

He was good against Southampton, a couple of lovely passes which included an assist, but prior to that game it's been poor.

Just some context here because KDH is getting some absolute pelters for his passing.

Below are KDH (first) and James McAtee, who everyone was wanking themselves silly over us signing (second)
