RowlattsFox Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 I get the feeling we will go for this and pick our strongest side. 1
Popular Post Riot Van Posted 25 September 2023 Popular Post Posted 25 September 2023 Surprised most people aren't bothered about this. I think we've genuinely got a squad capable of making a decent run and Liverpool will be playing a weakened team where we definitely have players that can cause them problems. 6

RowlattsFox Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 Can see Coady in for Vestergaard (just to give some minutes) and McAteer in for Madvididi and that's it. Be a good test for the rest of them to see how brave they are playing this style under the pressure from Liverpool. Will probably go horribly wrong, like the friendly, but we caused them lots of issues in the first half hour.
Popular Post SixtiesFox Posted 25 September 2023 Popular Post Posted 25 September 2023 How times have changed. I went to Anfield as a kid in the 60's with my dad. Being a nipper everyone around me seemed 10 feet tall and I couldn't see a thing. In those days there was no segregation and some Liverpool fans spotted my plight and said to my dad 'we'll shoulder him down to the front and look after him'. which they did. I got a bird's eye view for the rest of the game and a regular supply of sweets! I also remember after the FA cup semi final replay at Villa Park in 1974, which we lost to Liverpool, I was walking down the steps after the game and heard shouts from the terraces from our fans still behind the goal to come back as the Liverpool fans had invaded the pitch and were running towards our end. We rushed back in expecting a pitched battle but the Liverpool fans stopped in front of the goal and applauded us to which we responded in kind. Those were the days. Hope our fans support us vociferously at Anfield on Wednesday but show a bit of class and mutual respect for their opposite numbers. 6
FoxinNotts Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 Knock out Liverpool, and it opens up a lot, this competition. Would just need to avoid Man City, and there's a chance. 4-5 more games. It's the age old question... do you play a substantially weakened team? 5 games for glory! Imagine bagging the League Cup and The Championship title, whilst on our little holiday season away from the prem! Two more pieces of silverware

Yeah I’ve been to the last two at Anfield and both were sadly around Christmas. I remember at home in L1, people were falling over themselves to sing “always the victims”.

Chelmofox Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 (edited) Im flip flopping between going for it, or just playing kids. I have a really bad feeling about this fixture. The likes of Jota get away with anything and didn't we end up with Riccy and Vardy injured following this fixture a few years back? The thought of having Winks, JJ, Faes, KDH or Ndidi injured from this really concern me. Edited 25 September 2023 by Chelmofox 1

Too early in the season to bin off a club competition, and it gives our players a taste of how 'our style' will fair in the Prem. I think we will play mostly on the counter but I predict there will be space for our players to operate in. I anticipate some changes but not wholesale - If we do that we may as well forfeit and I dont think Enzo is going to squander the chance to test his players against elite opposition. I agree, play those that need minutes - Coady, Yunus, Daka, Souttar, etc and protect those who've played shit loads and/or had injury problems in the past - Ricardo, Justin, Winks, Ndidi etc. 6

I’d not risk Winks or Ricky in this one 1
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 Think the only 2 fit full backs have to be rested as they are irreplaceable now and need to be fit for the league, particularly with their injury history if Doyles injury is long ish term. Winks is the heartbeat of the team and we couldn't play Enzo's way without him, so wouldn't play him either. Then of the rest would like to see Ndidi, KDH, Mavididi, Vesty, Vardy and Hermansen have a night off as well as they are all locked in as part of our strongest 11.

Angus Scott Posted 25 September 2023 Posted 25 September 2023 I really can't understand why people think Daka will play. If it is true that we have to pay Salzburg £5million if he makes another appearance, I see no way that he will play for us again, especially as he doesn't seem to figure in Enzo's plans

Would be surprised if he doesn’t feature at some point. 1
AjcW Posted 26 September 2023 Posted 26 September 2023 Klopp has sent his assistant to do the presser today, think he tends to do that for cup games, he's also the one who has previewed the game on the liverpool website.
