coolhandfox Posted 3 January 2024 Posted 3 January 2024 Whilst investing in kids is a good long term strategy, if or when we go up we are going to need players who can make a instant impact in the PL. 1
CH1_Fox Posted 3 January 2024 Posted 3 January 2024 I’m not ‘in the know’ but been told from someone reliable that we are close to signing Trei Hume at Sunderland. But he also has an offer from Leeds. Don’t shoot the messenger! 3

He is an excellent prospect and performs well in his first season in the Austrian Bundesliga - rumored to be off the Freiburg for 3m Euros. He is the sort of player you buy and loan back for a period. We do not have funds for the that sort of deal.

That’s a boring comment trotted out by people who don’t follow Scottish football. Plenty of players leave the SPFL and do well in higher ranked leagues. For example, Aberdeen’s recent departures include: Lewis Ferguson (Bologna, linked with Inter and Juventus) Calvin Ramsey (Liverpool) Scott McKenna (Forest) Ylber Ramadani (Lecce, linked with larger Italian clubs) Kenny McLean (Norwich) Ross McCrorie (Bristol City) All bar one for 7-figure fees and they’ve largely all been successful to date. Lower standard of football, yes. But they’re hardly all League 2 cloggers. I’m sure Hearts and Hibs could say similar (McGinn, Hickey etc.) Miovski will be a high profile export from the league (£5m+) and when he goes, I’d back him to do well. He has scored consistently in the league, scored well against the Old Firm, and has 4 in 7 in Europe this year. Compatible with League 2 my arse. 3

But like JJ he can play either side and perhaps more crucially I believe he could play in the inverted fullback role and is extremely versatile. He’d be exactly the sort of signing we’d have made during the Macia era where we signed players like Maddison, Ricardo and Ndidi. He’d be a great pickup. 1

Don't think Simeone ever rated him or really wanted him. Or maybe they just saw the opportunity to turn around a quick profit. Edited 3 January 2024 by SouthStandUpperTier 3

What makes it more odd is on the face of it it seemed the perfect match 1
Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2024 Posted 4 January 2024 Just been looking at the PL2 this season and what talent might be poachable with their contracts expiring this summer. Callum Marshall at West Ham is having an outrageous season, hes got 19 goals and 5 assists in just 13 games. Can play wide right or through the middle. Can't believe West Ham haven't given him any minutes yet with output like this. Two others that have caught my eye are Kane Taylor and Nico O'Reilly at Man City, both classy versatile central midfielders at Man City and Enzo likely to be well aware of them. Contracts both up this summer. 3

Not that it is likely he would return but I'm not sure he would suit the way we play now? Fox85 Posted 4 January 2024 Posted 4 January 2024 Summer window was way more exciting not even a slight sniff of anything atm. I hope it changes soon

Dahnsouff Posted 4 January 2024 Posted 4 January 2024 I would like us to offer those who are out of contract in the Summer, and we will likely not extend, the chance to terminate their contracts now, to give them the chance to get a new deal before the busy Summer window.

Tempting to want to add an alternative to Mavididi and Fatawu etc but it's not the end of the world if we didn't and likewise a left footed defender, its not really something we're desperate for right now. I do think a central midfielder is the highest priority, if there is one. I'd like us to move the unwanted keepers on and ideally Praet and Iheanacho. I'd not be surprised if Albrighton pushed for a move but then again he's only half a season left before he will likely move on and get more football.
cruzFOX Posted 4 January 2024 Posted 4 January 2024 Is Bertrand still on the books and haunting the physio rooms at Seagrave? Someone please tell me we got rid somehow!
cruzFOX Posted 4 January 2024 Posted 4 January 2024 Does sharky not wanna retire or is he waiting for Vardy to make the first move?

I agree, another 8 would make the biggest difference. The level between KDH / Ndidi and Casadei / Yunus is very notable. However, to get a really top class one, it might make sense to wait till the summer. Players are more likely to move in the summer and as a Premier League club definitively, will have more pull. That said, Gronbaek looks like a good player to me. 2

I think that many candidates will be looking closely at us given our league position. Why wait until the summer when they can join the promotion carnival, get a medal, and be in playing in the Premier League by August? LCFC have more chance of being in the Premier League next season than many other clubs (and 3 for sure). I'd think that a decent player with ambition would sooner come to us than any of the PL's bottom 6-8 clubs. 1 1

I'm wondering if the rumours about Hume could mean Ricardo will be pushed into a #8 position...

As a system team, players coming in now have time to adapt and learn under less pressure. Also allow is to split cost across to finance account periods. Spending money in this window goes in the 23/24 reporting period, spending money in the summer goes in the 24/25 period. The money you spend next summer hangs around for the next 3 years as part of the FFP monitoring period so be part of the calculations until end of the 26/27 season. Spend it now and it will drop out of the FFP calculation in 25/26. Considering we are seen as massive favourites to go up, I can't see there being much difference for players outside of the 5 league joining us. Edited 4 January 2024 by coolhandfox
