A lot of water under the bridge with daka. He has his faults.

Last time in the championship  he got 7 in 20 and 5 assists. Over a season that’s about 16 goals and 10 assists. That would’ve put him 2nd or 3rd top scorer last season in the championship.

We need a new striker, no doubt about it, but I do think Patson would score goals at this level. Marti will like him for his pressing I’d have thought.

Though I can’t get Leeds and Plymouth out of my head the season we went up.

Defo, Ayew can’t press quick enough which Marti won’t like.

i thought Daka looked really good in the friendly yesterday but he’s got a long way to go to prove his doubters wrong.

It might sound like a cliché but he did need a run in the team.

If he knew he was getting the first 10 starts without pressure I reckon he'd score 5. We have him. No one's buying him. Let build him up.

If we have an in form mavi and fatawu (2 players I forgot received existed briefly) either side were might even make top 10.

I remember being so hopeful and optimistic when he first arrived. Some of the things he said about how he was offered a PS5 and all kinds of entertainment when he arrived and he just told the club he wanted books on LCFC so he could learn about our history. It’s sad how things turned out.

Couldn't even find the thread for Ayew which says it all really but was anyone else surprised about Bates's comment about Ayew being renowned for being a hardworking forward?

Daka to start over Ayew for me.

Interestingly, Daka is joint 9th with SkyBet to be top scorer this season.

Ayew hasn’t even made the cut, the longest odds are 80/1 too.

With the potential of our wingers, I wonder if the person playing through the middle will be more about bringing them into the game. I don’t think Ayew is ideal but the ball bouncing off Daka for 90 minutes is going to be worse IMO.

But Marti’s football is all about a high press.

This will not work if playing Ayew and we’ll see the embarrassing pressing as individuals like last season.

Daka is far from ideal and desperate for a better alternative but Ayew in a team that wants to high press is suicidal football and we’ll just get played through 24/7.

Tbh I just think we need someone who can do both. Daka would be fine as a back up, Ayew in certain games.

He started 15 games and scored 4 goals from open play, plus 3 penalties, for a team that spent most of the season at the top of the table.

Breaking it down further, across those 15 matches, in which he averaged over 71 minutes per game — he scored from open play in just 4 games.

This was in a league winning team averaging 2 goals per game.

The stats, all things considered, were far from “impressive”.

A goal return in 33% of the matches he started and 26.7% from open play.

Still better than anyone else in the league bar Vardy in terms of goals and assists per 90 minutes. I don’t think he should play and I think we should move him on but he clearly didn’t do as terribly as some people on this forum have stated. I was sharing the stats more to defend him than claim he’s the next Messi.

I don’t think anyone can say he didn’t have a purple patch but he also had a shit patch and when you break down the numbers in 10 of the 15 games he started in, he failed to score.

He is very fortunate if he ends up leading the line this year, due to our financial situation.

If he does have to play and there is no alternative, I hope he scores and does well. But it won’t paper over the cracks that he has been a terrible signing for the money and wages he has earned.

It’s his fourth season, and now with no Vardy in front on him, and under his 6th different manager there can be no excuses if he fails to deliver in the league below what he was signed for.

Daka befuddles me. He's always struck me as a player who could do well in the right system.

His technical ability is nowhere near good enough at Premier League level for the possession football we've been addicted to for goodness knows how long, but for a team that wants to play quickly on the break or force errors through a high press that then require a quick and mobile player to capitalise? You could see it.

My worry is that the time for that has passed because his confidence has been destroyed. It will take some serious man management, probably even a good sports psychologist, to get him firing while he's here. A new club is a fresh start, but a new manager? He's already played under Rodgers, Maresca, Smith, Cooper and van Nistelrooy and failed to thrive under any of them. He could be forgiven for thinking 'new boss, same as the old boss.'

Does he press well?

I genuinely can't picture it.

Looks like he’s constantly pressing himself

I don’t disagree with any of that.

As a player, I’d love for him to turn it around and start scoring goals.

I think we’ve sort of got to expect that we’ll split the goals across the pitch this season and maybe for a little while. Strikers that average a goal every other game, tend to be quite expensive and a bit of a unicorn if I’m honest. Every club is looking for them.

Purely stat padding unfortunately. Look at the context of the goals, nearly all goals in games that were already won, at least 2 penalties.

Those Leeds and Plymouth games, when the chips were down he folded as usual.

Doesn't the Leeds game kind of sum him up though, got an assist and had a goal wrongly disallowed, along with the miss

I want him to do well as he is an asset on our books but I can’t see it happening.  He would’ve shown more ability by now if he had it.

There first team has too many backup players playing by default. If he can float around holding to poach a goal then good but when he gets involved in the build up play he stinks it out, the same with Ayew. I can just about live with either starting as long as they goal hang and that’s it.

Let Mav/Fat/Bilal/Monga ie the players with brains and ability worry about the build up.

If Mav can get his confidence back to actually try and curl shots in rather than keep cutting back, that could force a loose ball in the area for Daka/Ayew to snatch at.

Tbf, his stats in the Championship per minute were pretty exceptional.

now now, this is foxestalk. "he's a reasonable striker at this level but there's too much happened here for him to really stay" isn't acceptable. You can only refer to him in reference to Stevie Wonder and call him the worst player to ever step on a football pitch

He’s due a good season, new 5-year contract on inflated wages and then back to offering very little.

it’s the Leicester way,

Yep he's certainly due a god season. Some very optimistic voices on here. For me, he's at the peak of his powers right now, which come to very little.

One of those players who will always show potential, but never realise it. Giving him playing time, is a waste of time, he already showed us his limited abilities.

Yes I would absolutely say the Leeds game summed him up. Golden chance in a huge game that could have been season defining and he gets caught in about 7 minds and fails.

I think he has 10 goals in him at Championship level as does Ayew. Desperately in need of another man who can at least get 15+though. No way is that Daka in my opinion.
