Do We Want Southampton To Win Tonight ?

Probably a draw the best result? Means Preston won't have anything to play for when we play them, and hopefully that'll be the same when we play Saints.

Preston win or draw would be fine IMO, but I'm leaning towards a draw.

Like your logic 👍 l was torn between the permutations

If we have to worry about Southampton given the points buffer we still have on them, then we haven’t done our job anyway and don’t deserve to go up.

Good point about Preston being out of the mix when we play them so tempting for a Southampton win on that basis. The point of them having something to play for against Leeds is moot really given we play them first.

We definitely want a Preston win as Southampton are still a danger to us.

Even if Preston win they will still be 5 points behind Norwich with only 3 games to play & they have a minus goal difference so I would say they are out of contention

Nope, Preston win

If they win tonight and Saturday and we don’t beat West Brom it means they can go into our game against them next week knowing a win would put them above us

It has been annoying having Ipswich and Leeds to deal with we don’t want another one

If Southampton beat Preston & us in their 2 games in hand, there’ll be 4 teams within 2 points at the top of the table - given our current form how does that help us?

Ipswich, Southampton & Leeds to lose every match please (or a draw when Southampton play Leeds)!

Not sure why people are discounting Southampton? They could still win the league! they have the same maximum points as Leeds?

Maximums:

Leicester 100

Ipswich 98

Leeds 96

Southampton 96

We win any 2 of our games and we're up IMO - Leeds/Southampton wouldn't be able to drop any points...

Just win 3 out of our 4 remaining games. Then it doesn't matter what anyone else does.

Yeah, about that…

To be fair, it's 9 points gained by us/lost by Leeds/Southampton

If we can win any 2 of our remaining games, we're very likely up.

v Preston

Might need them to have half a shout at autos against Leeds last day.

Or will a win tonight harm our chances particularly if we don't beat them next week?

think I'd prefer a 3 horse race rather than 4 (obviously would rather a 2er but heyho

The are arguments for all outcomes but I agree a draw seems best. That Leeds match at the end could still be pivotal and we will likely want Southampton to get a result. So much can happen in the meantime though and even if saints are in the playoffs they will want to keep match sharp. Best thing is to win three ourselves.

Leeds and Southampton both have the same potential max points, so wanting Southampton to 'need' a result in the final game and take points off Leeds depends entirely on how both teams do between now and then. They're both an equal threat.
