Gene Hackman has absolutely gutted me. A true legend of acting. So many of his films are in my top films of all time.

might even rewatch Quick and the Dead later because he was amazing in that (and Sharon Stone looks hot) 🥵

Crimson Tide for me, a masterclass of acting opposite Denzil Washington, who is pretty decent himself.

One of my favorites, and an amazing cast. Viggo Mortensen and James Gandolfini in supporting roles, too.

Sad to hear about Gene Hackman. Really liked he retired from acting and became an author. Such a brilliant presence in virtually all of his films.

Sad to hear about Gene Hackman, 95 is a good run but still.

Wife and dog died too .

Very tragic  - no foul play so some sort or incident like carbon monoxide poisoning maybe ?

Maybe all ate some bad frog's legs or Roquefort? I can't help but think there might be some French connection.

I guess a mutual suicide pact would not count as foul play either.

A fine actor. First remember him in I Never Sang For My Father. Had a particular soft spot for him as my family and friends often said my older brother looked liked him.

So many great films for Gene Hackman, personal favourite being Crimson Tide, but the best being Mississipi Burning, IMO.

Magnificent actor, will be missed.

Yes Crimson Tide, Mississipi Burning and The Firm are probably my all time favourite three, but plenty of others come close.

All beat by his greatest work - The French Connection

Jack Vettriano aged 73.

Always assumed he was older. Never liked his work (sentimental images of the upper middle classes (said the guy who really likes most Pre-Raphaelite art lol)), but undoubtedly one of the most recognisable modern artists.

Eddie Jordan, 76.

Absolutely gutting.

I usual think Jake Humphrey is a twat, but his words about Eddie Jordan here are pretty moving.

Humphries comes across as a sycophant on F1 coverage.

This doesn't change my opinion.

Allowed to stay up by my grandmother to watch Rumble in the Jungle, incredible fight and Foreman was an exceptional puncher.
