Assumed he was just a PSR fiddle who would just go straight into the U21's and never be seen again.

Weird they've done a reveal video and everything. Hopefully he goes on to be a good signing!

Who has actually deemed this lad as ‘Highly Rated’

This term gets used a lot without any proof whatsoever….

If he is actually highly rated why have Chelsea sold him

instead of putting him out on loan ……..

Because they need to make profit on players to avoid FFP sanctions

I guess he's consistently represented England at youth levels (U16, U17 and U18). Has been captain too, I think.

Doesn't mean he's going to be world class in the future but I guess it explains why he is 'highly rated'.

Chelsea fans seem to regard him as their brightest youth prospect and are gutted he's gone. That's also encouraging.

Given we've signed him and spent money on him, how could he help with PSR?

I think it means it was to help Chelsea meet their PSR target. But given the low fee involved, it's hard to imagine it helped them that much.

If Chelsea valued him more than £4mil (i think thats what we have paid), then the remaining 'true' value of him was added to the KDH deal which in turn inflates his transfer fee and goes into last years accounts.

In order to get Chelsea to go up to the figure we wanted for KDH?

Seemed obvious to me, but obviously I could have assumed wrong!

Weren't they separate deals though?

They are separate deals done at the same time.

Hence, the other much larger deals with larger values for youth players being investigated.

That's it, though. In those other cases, the fees paid for unproven youth players were clearly massively inflated. That's not the case with Golding, so I'm not convinced our purchase of him can be dismissed as a 'PSR fiddle', as claimed above. I also remember reading somewhere that we would have gone after Golding even if the KDH deal fell through, which implies our interest in him was genuine.

They see him as their second brightest youth prospect. There was one who is considered better but i cant remember his name. Hopefully he ends up like a Livramento/Lamptey type deal.

Has he featured yet in any of the first team pre season squads yet?

Yes against Shrewsbury. He looks assured and confident on ball can’t judge too much as a late sub.

Might be the fact he hasn't come through our academy, but the fact he isn't in this photo possibly indicates he has a part to play this season.

If we’re going by that theory, then the same can’t be said about Ben Nelson…

I don’t think a photo will indicate who is in the managers plans…….. 😂

I think the price was the fiddly bit. We would have paid a lot more had KDH not gone for such a sensible if not low fee.

Genuinely excited about this signing. Hope he plays a role this year and shows what he can do.

I’m a little bit worried we will go down the route of buying loads of players in their late twenties, so I welcome signings like this!

For the same reason Chelsea sold Kevin De Bruine.

They have so many young players they need to move on some every season. Regardless.

I think the point was that those are the academy-trained players who are with the first team, so making the step up as 'future foxes'.

Golding not being there just means he's gone straight into our matchday squad plans, i.e. he's not a signing for the youth teams.

Agreed, fofana wouldn’t have featured in this photo at 19 when we signed him as he was straight into the first team.

Yeah quite possibly, blooding a young center half in the Prem is completely different to giving a young winger 5 mins here and there.

How many total appearances do you think the lads in that photo make this season?
