Are we really worse? I don't see it. I do think we've improved.

 

Whether we've improved enough is the question.

Vardy, Ayew, an injured Daka

 

We could be about to have to spend the first half of the season relying on 37 year old Vardy and a soon 33 year old Jordan Ayew

I think Cannon will only go if we get someone in, so we are just replacing Nacho for Ayew. 

However, we are in the Premier League now and that is a very weak set of options. 

Ridiculous that a striker wasn't our priority position this window.

Would still absolutely take him right now rather than go ahead with what we have now

The door is still open if we can get someone in.

 

It'll be a disappointment if we can't bring a striker in. On the face of it, we have Vardy and an injured Daka only.

 

But Ayew can play there. Not as a prolific goalscorer but as someone who can facilitate for our younger, more dynamic players and bring Fatawu, Mavididi, Buonanotte or El Khannouss through.

 

And there's Popov too. It doesn't look like he has a loan lined up. This could be a chance for him to become more involved in first-team training and impress the manager.

 

It may look crap if no striker comes through the door. But there are silver linings, solutions to be found and reasons to be optimistic.

Let's be honest. This is a problem that should have been solved in 22/23... then again last season.


In fact last season was the perfect opportunity to pick someone early 20's up and get them going to be Vardy's successor. Whether it be someone from abroad or a Championship high flyer who we could of trained up. 

 

Horrific succession planning. 

And we can't possibly say Daka was the intended solution given we've been a whisker away from selling him on several occassions.

Ayew could potentially play as a false 9, and be the one to play off. The goals would have to come from the supporting midfielders. It could work, because I think all of the attacking midfielders can contribute, but you’ll need two of them to hit double figures.

For regular starters we have lost KDH but we have added 2 more fair players in that single position we now play with a perm & a loan, time will tell if better but on the face of it it would seem so. Better
Strikers yes down to Vardy & Daka but it was only them that were used last season in the main (& yes Daka currently injured) but again are we worse off than last season as a squad in that position we lost Nacho but fill with BDR & Ayew so as a squad does it scream worse or maybe break even?
Wide players remain the same so how can that be worse?
In defence  only Souttar has gone but gained Okoli, Souttar never played if Okoli never plays are we worse off? although i believe Okoli will play so better?
Then we have added Skipp into the middle without losing anyone so again 'much' better?
And keepers remain although Jakub injured for now but Mads probably playing every league game anyway as he did last season.

So not sure i agree with the panic in his "not a chance " that the squad is overly worse.

took him a fair while to find a team as well didn't it? so not like he had options galore waiting for him
