Reflections so far:

There are far too many swimming events.

Scarcely believable it's still included but dressage is complete nonsense and should be scrapped.

If its still the case that we're on our best total ever so far, that's a bit mad given we really should have more.

I think it is best ever total so far, but less golds, which tallies. Some missed opportunities (and one refereeing step l screw up).

Why is weight lifting no longer a sport? Shame as I used to enjoy watching that

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally dropped the sport from the 2028 Los Angeles Games programme following years of corruption, doping and governance scandals that led to the departure of longtime weightlifting president Tamas Ajan in 2020

The 100m final is going to be insane. Slowest qualifying time was 9.93. 5 sprinters were under 9.87.

Could we see an olympic record maybe? Seems a stretch but if 9.81  and 9.80 were the fastest times surely they will be going for it.

Hodgkison was cruising down the home straight there and looked like she had another gear left

Kerr v Ingebrigsten is going to be some race in the final.

Will be interesting how Ingebrigsten approaches this as i think Kerr comfortably beats him if it comes down to a last 200m burn up off anything other than a  fast pace.  Ingebrigsten needs this to be a fast race or for someone to make a long run for home to take the sting out of Kerrs finish. My only doubt about Kerr is he's hardly raced this summer since beating Ingebrigsten in late May - can't see any reports of him being injured but its just a little strange to not have a few sharpeners before the Olympics.

Incredible standard, Seville came last with a 9.91 and he was easing off over the line.

Only seems like yesteryear when breaking sub 10 was a massive thing, now it's almost standard.

Amazing really, in a couple of decades of evolution it'll  be under 9 secs.
