Fattawu, Mavidi and Hermansen are good spots but there's a real divergence in strategy elsewhere. I know nothing about the internal workings of the club, but logic dictates the chief scout looks at a suite of players based on the DoF/managers strategy rather than being responsible for the overarching recruitment strategy itself. Input yes, but should a chief scout really be dictating transfer policy? I may be wrong on that and I appreciate the club may not currently be acting logically either.

We appear to have scouted and had considerable interest in Ramon Sosa, Mathias Soulé, Richard Rios, Fotis Ioannidis, Adam Hlozek, Mandela Keita, Florentino Luis et all. Not to mention Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi and Mads Hermansen. It's not on Glover if either Rudkin can't do a deal or we suddenly get a new manager that doesn't want all the players he's been working on for a year because we don't have a director of football and the club are letting the head coaches have far too much of a say on the development of the squad. That is a fair defence. A breakdown in strategy elsewhere means the influence which Macia or Walsh had is lacking.
les-tah Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 I dont know if true but If coopers time at forest proved that when they signed 30 odd players regardless of talent it was the premier league experienced players that were key to survival then im happy (if it makes us survive that is)

Simonb Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 Genuinely a signing I really don't want to happen. Yes he has experience and all that, but he offers literally nothing else. He's not a goalscorer. I know he can hold up the ball etc but we need competition for goals up top, not see out a 0-0 from kick off. 2

Claudio Fannieri Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 The only saving grace with this deal would be if the £6m is heavily incentive biased and a low initial fee. if the fee is majority up front then we really have been had.

I really don't get this, some people's words need to be hung on or their word is gospel and always right! Whoever comments it's just 'their opinion' mate, nothing more nothing less! Love the craics, different opinions and debate, personally I don't get some of the pedestal mentality. 2
jonny_wright Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 The way it’s going I’ll be happy to get Ayew in, it’s better than nothing
DezFox Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 (edited) Gathering pace….its happening and it’s heartbreaking! 3 year contract incoming and you just know it will be a pay rise and 6 mill plus 😂😂😂 Edited 22 August 2024 by DezFox
Popular Post coolhandfox Posted 22 August 2024 Popular Post Posted 22 August 2024 (edited) As Leicester fans we should understand the quote of the “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts” more then anyone after 15/16. Sometimes for every Vardy you need a Okazaki, for every Mahrez you need a Albrighton. Edited 22 August 2024 by coolhandfox 10

roblcfc84 Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 Thinking purely of this season, and the fact we will need high effort and lots of experience, this makes sense. Maybe not as a regular starting, but as an option.
CrispinLA in Texas Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 Nice tidy business from Palace in offloading player they bought for 2.5m several years ago and getting around 6m for him with on only 1year remaining on his contract 1

Popular Post Bordersfox Posted 22 August 2024 Popular Post Posted 22 August 2024 I don't mind Ayew, he's a nuisance. He'd be an okay squad option. But £6m for a nearly 33 year old player with one year left on his contract? More than the initial fee Brighton played for Facundo. That would be foul and abusive. 6

Agree with this, 6m is genuinely embarrassing and it’s become our trademark. 3
Fox 4 Life Posted 22 August 2024 Posted 22 August 2024 I think he would be a decent addition but if he is our only striker signing then we have a big problem.

Palace going to make 3.5m profit on a 33 year whose served for around 6 years....and now can get looked after at Leicester retirement club

As in, you'll actually be broken-hearted if we sign him? I think this signing (if it happens), like those of BDR and Skipp, shows just how scarred the club is by the 22/23 relegation. That season, we had the quality of a side that should be pushing for top 6-8. Unfortunately that was more than offset by our lack of character. It was one of the most mentally weak Leicester teams I've ever seen. We were so fragile we'd just collapse the moment anything went wrong. The common theme with BDR, Skipp and Ayew is that all of them are known as great team players who give everything for the cause. In a season when we'll frequently find ourselves under the cosh, those aren't bad players to have around. Another factor may be what happened to Forest that season. They had a very decent home record but were by far the worst away team in the division. In other words, they were fine when they had a raucous home crowd behind them, but wimped out when the atmosphere wasn't in their favour. I'm sure Cooper is conscious that, given our likely points deduction, we'll need to be much better away from home than Forest were in 2022/23. Players like Ayew, whose primary attributes are his pressing and his ability to move the ball up the pitch and win fouls, are useful when you're playing away. Of course, there is such a thing as overcompensation. You could argue, with some justification, that the acquisitions of Skipp and BDR were enough to give us what we need in terms of 'battling' players and that we now need to focus more on flair/quality. However I suspect we'll still bring in a couple of flair players too - but that will likely happen towards the end of the window when selling clubs become open to negotiation and the players themselves realise they're not going to get their dream move after all...
