When you see populists like Farage or Trump, you anssumr they are bound to be strong public speakers even if they lie a lot, they would need to be to get people on their side. I assumed Musk would be the same when he first broke through a few years back, but now I’ve actually watched him, he’s such a mumbler and very uncharasmatic, awkward and nervous the whole time and a very uninspiring speaker. Even to those who agree with him politically, I can’t get my head round how he has such a devoted following or who hang on his every word. Seeing him on stage with Trump, jumping around, was quite cringeworthy. Looked jacked up on something.

This is the level of diplomatic decorum the UK should expect routinely from the incoming administration, and act accordingly.

davieG Posted 20 December 2024 Posted 20 December 2024 Hashem Al-Ghaili · Follow 30 years ago, Carl Sagan predicted what the United States would be like in the future. How accurate is it today? "I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...” ~Carl Sagan in "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark" Don't know if true as it popped up on my FB account 1 2

At least, in that regard, what Mandelson said had at least some basis in truth. In any case, the point stands that the UK should expect zero respect from this incoming administration unless they are prepared to kiss their rectal passages on every single matter. Trump, and those that follow him, have sycophants and enemies. They do not have friends. 1 hour ago, grobyfox1990 said: That’s human nature. We split into camps. Not out of any particular moral principle other than the preservation of life, because that and the tribal nature of humanity will, inevitability, lead nowhere good when facing some of the challenges to come. Some German cities (along with some Belgian, Swedish and Dutch cities) are in a real mess immigration/ integration wise 1

RowlattsFox Posted 20 December 2024 Posted 20 December 2024 Ridiculous that there needs to be but I thought most Christmas markets protected from this sort of thing. Unfortunately, it needs to be standard. I will never fathom how you can do this to people minding their own business. 1 1
