I think it's more to do with the fact that no team came to the King Power to attack. Even when we went 1-0 up teams generally just thought "ah **** it lets make sure we don't embarrass ourselves". Was a full season of playing against 11 defenders.

Also worth pointing out that the players were still only high Championship/low Premier League standard. Not like you can expect 8/9 out of 10 every week from players who lack that consistency like you could expect from the Man City side.

Not every team played like that. Leeds and Hull came at us, and beat us, for example. But I totally understand why teams do that. We had the biggest budget, and constantly told how our squad was one of the best ever at that level, and we were playing against sides such as Rotherham and Plymouth. The contrast is massive. Can't expect them teams to come at us, just as I wouldn't expect us to go and attack Manchester City.

I don't agree with this.

There was a small bit of protest and the media blew it out of proportion. 'Oh my god the fans have had their day'.

One game got called off. It wasn't strong enough. Sky co-opted it as a story in order to diminish it.

I was living in West London at the time and the Chelsea protests were quite bit

Protests aren't going to impact Sky and the monied six. They will just use it to drive engagement and make it appear as though fans are having a meaty say.

It needs sustain postponement of games and proper disruption to be off the table.

This stat just feels weird. I know it’s right, but I sit and watch most of our games thinking we really struggle to create, yet we can’t stop scoring!! 🤔

Because when we get forward the other team are not as settled due to the higher urgency to get it forward, its also harder to defend when the team you playing against doesnt just stick to one style of play.

You think the  Chelsea board are sane sensible people?

where did i write that....

it's irrelevant when you're getting paid a massive wedge at an elite club.

If the Plastic 6 want to go and play Valencia and PSG every week, let them.

There are some great clubs in the Champo who would happily take their place, making the PL more entertaining and improving stadium atmosphere.  Sunderland, Boro, Leeds, Sheff Weds, the 🐑 would all be far more interesting opponents than the theatre goers of London and Manchester.

The novelty of Man Utd v Juventus when there is no jeopardy would wear off very quickly.

You can see it in the matches between two heavyweights in the new champions league format already.

Didn't get the hype, struggled to score goals in one of the best sides in the league.

Always sceptical of signings like that. Arsenal fans overhype their players more than any fanbase in England and it definitely helps them get inflated fees for bang average players.

Hull didn't come at us really, they sat back and were very physical

I got the impression that Sky weren't to positive about if fearing the might not get any TV contract after all it's been a while since they've got any Euro matches.

I said this at the time the Super League was announced. I genuinely wanted those six clubs to go. It would have provided an opportunity for the English football pyramid to be reformed in a way that benefits the majority of its members.

Another thing that bothered me about the Super League was seeing Man United and Liverpool fans who weren't from Manchester or Liverpool getting all worked up about it when they had contributed to the problem in the first place. I have far more time for Forest fans from Nottingham, Derby fans from Derby and Coventry fans from Coventry than I'll ever have for Liverpool or Man United fans from Kent.

The Super League was never about them leaving the PL it was a replacement for UEFA's competitions.

They wanted both.

I agree.  For me the novelty has worn off.  When the champions league first started it was all new and as you say, novel .  Seeing barca v bayern, juventus v real Madrid etc etc was good.  But it has become commonplace now. Nothing new, just two more teams playing that I don't care about.  Routine.  I don't even bother with the champions league now, not least because this season I don't understand the format and If I'm honest don't really care.  Those big euro games used to be a treat, reserved for once or twice a season when they reached the semis or final.  Now it's overkill

Agree with this, less is more absolutely when it comes to the big games, otherwise by definition they aren't big games?

Bring it back to straight knockout over 2 legs, yeah obviously let the bigger teams in at a later round, but how good would it to see Real Madrid randomly dumped out by Valarenga or Man City by Grasshoppers who then go on a mad run to the final?! would love that personally. Realistically 9 times out of 10 the team you expect to win it will win it still, but thats got to be better and more exciting than this massive league format?

And yet I'm sure they had more shots on target than us that game.

In fact they did as I just looked. 4 shots on target to our 1.

There must have been some prolific shaggers from Manchester in the seventies and eighties.

Nearly every United fan I meet - "I only support them because my uncle/cousin/grandfather does'. It's the big tell.

Agree 100%

The whole system is more and more geared to the big teams winning everything in a perennial battle against each other. It’s a money trough because the bigger teams generate the revenue.

It’s a yawn fest to me! I want to see smaller clubs compete consistently and that’s where the interest is. I’m not really bothered about RM winning the cup for the 100th time.

Unfortunately, for us, it’s the armchair fan with a Sky TV subscription that generates the money and the direction of the game

They were also prolific employers. There must be several million people who have relatives who worked there is some capacity as a groundsmen, coach, tea lady or steward. “I only support Man United because my great grandad used to mow the pitch at Old Trafford …”. Hmmm….

There was football on last night? :O :frantics: :P

Going to have to go against the grain here and say I love the champions league and its always been the best tournament to watch enjoyment wise for me. Not sold on the new format however but I imagine after a while it'll just be the norm

Actually think that Brendan really wanted to go to Celtic (a boyhood fan, apparently?), and hence took risks with the goalkeeping situation to negatively change results to lead to his dismissal.

lollol proper unintentional comedy here. he literally left Celtic to join us

Still feel's weird that we'd be in a stat like this:-

Unai Emery's side have become only the third club after Leicester and Malaga to win their first three games in the Champions League without conceding.
