It was inappropriate and ill judged for Gasperini to say it.

 

But then, yeah, the response feels like it's something that should have been handled privately. But you don't know what's gone on really do you? For a start, he'd previously been one of their best players, why wasn't he in the starting line up? What has Gasperini said privately, maybe refused to talk to him or apologise? Maybe they've already had a falling out?

 

You don't know exactly what he means with he's had a bunch of other issues and this isn't the first? Could be the straw that broke the camel's back.

 

My gut reaction was the same as yours but tbf, you just don't know do you. Looks like his time there is probably up. Shame we're still skint and going down lol

I don't really see the problem with what Gasperini said, maybe went too far with 'worst he's ever seen' lol but if Lookman isn't the agreed penalty taker then the manager has every right to call him out. Plenty have done before.

I'm not exactly a raging gammon that thinks everything is too woke. In this scenario, if I purposefully take a penalty despite there being better takers on the pitch. If I miss, I'm holding my hands up, saying the gaffer is right and apologising to the fans.

 

The way he's reacted to this, suggests to me that his tolerance for criticism is fairly low. I'd be interested to hear what the other things are, you'd think this is the worst if it's what he wants to go public and cry about.

 

He's not questioned Lookman's character or assassinated his performance, he's called out a bad decision that has ultimately contributed to the team losing. Surely there's room for a little bit of backbone in the game still.

I mean, he's called him the worst penalty taker he's ever seen and that he's shit at them in training too. 

 

It's pretty strong criticism that goes a bit beyond "it wasn't a good penalty" or "he wasn't the chosen taker, he shouldn't have taken it."

Man City look terrible, not even getting close to Real Madrid, sharp football for the second but it was far too easy again. No one wants to press or make any type of challenge. Both goals like ones you score on FIFA on beginner, where the cpu doesn’t challenge or run

Lethargic defending by Man City again. All decent finishes by Mbappe but they are equivalent impressive of how we looked against QPR reserves in the FA Cup in terms of defensive ability.

 

In Real's defence you just have to beat what's in front of you and they haven't had to get out of 2nd gear in this match.
