I’ve seen Nelson a few times for Oxford this season, both before and after his injury. He does look very assured on the ball,  can play a pass and has good positioning. But he doesn’t seem anything special in the air and doesn’t have a particular physical presence. All in all a younger version of Vestergaard. He’s good but perhaps not quite as good as people are hoping I’m afraid.

I take it all back. Saw Oxford vs Sunderland this afternoon and he had a great game. Scored with a great header, looked very assured and was awarded man of the match. Looks a great prospect. Oxford fans already fed up he’ll be leaving.

I didn't realise centre backs were allowed to score goals

Vestergaard and Faes have been on the scoresheet a couple of times this year, in their own net mind.

Anyone trust the cvnts at the club not to sell him?

£5m to Burnley on deadline day and we replace him with 35 year old Craig Dawson on a free

Would he have done any worse in the first team squad this season than Vestergaard who was given a 3 year deal on 70k+ a week instead of being told to get ****ed like he should have been?

No, no he would not have.

Said recently that I thought he's been really good but not absolutely amazing, but today he was colossal.

Possibly the best Oxford United centre half showing I've seen for a good few years. If he turns in that calibre of performance on a regular basis moving forward, he's going to be worth a lot of money.

Easy to see why we didn't send him back in January despite his injury. That goal alone was worth every penny he's cost us this season. Good luck, young man, and thank you.

Oxford Forum:

Ben Nelson looked like an adult taking part in a kids kickabout at times today. He was absolutely and totally in control. One of the best centre back displays I’ve seen at the Kassan Stadium.

We're going to sell him for peanuts this summer aren't we

If we get offered more than 7.5m then the accountants may insist that he goes

we would get a v decent sell on clause inserted at that value

a Brentford/fulham/West Ham/brighton should snap him up without needing to think  about it

its shite isn’t it

Helped keep Oxford up so really should be recalled to start the last 4 matches, poor if we have not put in a release clause and if not surely he should be about for the last 3 games when Oxford finish their season

Just imagine Ruud is binned off this week and the euphoria sets in of a fresh start for next season only to have Nelson flogged to the prem for £10m to pay for it and then in walks Russell Martin or Sean Dyche as new manager 😩

Can't recall him outside of a transfer window

I don't think money is a tight as some think.

I think people are being overly dramatic.

We have enough other assets to raise funds and we will still be one of the high spenders in the championship.

Shouldn’t go for less than £30m.
