Surreal night.

Always so great to score two goals in quick succession and the third goal was one of my favourites of recent years. You can see me on the highlights start to run down the steps and then realise it's too slippery with trainers on.

Absolutely unreal night. We really were so good during that period

It’s mad how things went south so quickly and the core of that team went on to get relegated.

19/20 and 20/21 our January windows were terrible, we should have spent more to get over the line with Champions League qualification - the gamble would have been worth it rather than the one we took in summer 21/22 that led to our demise.

It was a pretty short run to be honest and we didn't play anyone that good. When you look at the 19/20 season results on wiki there's a lot of red there, it doesn't look that impressive. Maybe it made us think we were better than we really were.

This was one of the few away games I missed after doing about 90% of them from 2009 to that point lol

Sat at home with a few drinks smiling wryly as the camera cut to the rain battering into the away fans on that torrential night, justified that I'd sacked off this inconsequential Friday night game.

And then the game kicked off

I mean what a game that was - I remember thinking at the end of that game how lucky we were as football fans to be witnessing such a complete performance. That team played as one for 5 or 6 years, with a heart and desire like no other. I do wonder if we will ever witness that sort of team in our lifetime again.

No, I said it before, I don't think I'll see us finish top 6 (and win a major trophy) again.

Don't be silly - we've got as good a chance as any of winning the Johnston Paint Trophy (EFL Cup) as any other in our lifetime!

haha well I'm hoping we don't ever play in that competition again!

You don't realise how good you've got it at times though. Two 5th place finishes, Europe and 1 major Cup trophy win. Unbelievable.

So easy to say "it'll be us again one day" but you only have to look at the likes of Leeds. 20 years now since they were a top 4 club and 30 years since they won anything.

I was listening to a Saints fan say he's glad he went and it's one to tell the grand kids about.

I still have find memories of losing 7-1 at Sheff Wed, we were 7-0 down when we scored and we started singing "what's it like to be outclassed?".

Maybe blue-tinted hindsight specs, but even so I think we went into the game 2nd or 3rd in the table?

Heady days, man.

Unfortunately wasn't there that night.

Looking through my history this is the only match I've previously been to on October 25th. Not quite as enthralling.

We were very good for like two and a half months but I disagree with people who said at the time or say now that it was even better football than 15/16. We stylishly brushed aside a few pretty crap teams, but even in the Everton and Norwich home games in that run we didn't look amazing imo.

But yes, that autumn was fun. A lot of wasted potential.

Have always maintained and will always maintain it'd be a fascinating case study for sports psychology and the impact of morale and confidence on a how sportspeople actually perform.

Rodgers just completely tanked both. No ability to effectively manage people on a human level at all.

It's strange though because I agree but not one player comes close to saying a bad word about him. By that I mean the relevant ones, not Vesty sat out not playing.

We had all the rumours on here about Kasper despising him and he then said he's the best manager he's played under and gone back to work with him at Celtic.

I'll never forgive that man for the way he absolutely ensured his reputation to the outside world at the cost of our club though. It was disgusting. Absolute self preservation as the team plummeted into the oblivion. Incredible how I see him, Youri and a few others after giving us such a memorable cup win.
