Popular Post Izzy Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 Lineker was my boyhood hero and I was devastated when he left us for Everton in '85 I've followed his career with interest ever since and he's always represented Leicester in a good light IMO. It was never easy taking over from the legend Des Lynam but Linker has been brilliant on MOTD for quarter of a century and it won't be the same without him. I'm not really interested in his political views. He's a Leicester lad that done good and I'm proud of him. 46 3

Instead of doing the job he was highly paid to do he became too outspoken and controversial. Something you don't want from a presenter. He speaks out against all that’s wrong in the world and that’s a fantastic way to use your platform. You can only ever upset the right type of people.

We are all different. But good as he is, he can't beat the best intro to a live match .......des lynam before england v germany in euro 96 semis......."good evening , you might have heard theres a game on tonight". 3

Super_horns Posted 11 November 2024 Posted 11 November 2024 Mark Chapman to take over ? Would have been Jermaine Jenas a few months ago... 2

Des’ best intro for me was the France ‘98 WC when we played Tunisia mid afternoon and he looked in the camera and says “shouldn’t you lot be at work?” 1 11
Popular Post Lionator Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 (edited) Talking about his political views as if he’s some kind of facist, not a person that just wants to give a bit of hope to people that have suffered a lot 🤣🤣 We also wouldn’t have a football club if it wasn’t for Lineker which is important to remember. Anyway, give it to Alex Scott or even better, Sol Campbell just for the meltdowns. Edited 11 November 2024 by Lionator 20

This is what I don't get. Says a lot more about those who say "don't like him cause of his political views" 11
Popular Post Sly Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 He did a great for MOTD in picking it up after Des. I’ll miss the International Tournament coverage more though. However in the modern age, I’m not really sure MOTD itself has a place anymore. It was once the go to place to see highlights, however I don’t need to wait until the evening now. With social media and even Sky, the highlights are available much sooner. I’ve not watched the program itself for years. He’s always been massive advocate for Leicester. I don’t understand how people don’t get that. Some of his political opinions don’t align with mine, but then again 50% of the country don’t. I don’t dislike them or wish them ill. Such is life. 12

Popular Post RoboFox Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 I’m sad about the news. There’s no doubt MoTD won’t be the same without him. It’s always been a highlight of the weekend hearing that music followed by his mug gurning at the camera. Whether you like him or not, the guy’s a fantastic presenter and his dynamics with the pundits on the show will be hard to replace. He’s a devoted advocate for the city and the football club and it’s a shame to lose our highest profile supporter from our screens. I reckon he’ll go into semi-retirement now with the odd presenting job and will focus on his ridiculously successful podcast network. There’s one silver lining in that the announcement was made after Jenas was cancelled, thank fvck. Chappers to move from MoTD2. Alex Scott will replace him. 7
Popular Post splinterdream Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 he's a virtue signalling hypocrite. He advocates and promotes open borders which costs working people in this Country in lots of ways, all whilst using various ways to avoid tax (legally mind), all whilst being extremely highly paid (overpaid) for a channel uk taxpayers are forced to pay for should they wish to watch tv, a channel which is supposed to be politically neutral, but lineker felt he was above that and would often air his woke left views despite being told not to. He's fine to have his opinion although i don't agree with it, i just resent having to pay his wages, i would see if jeff stelling wants it, although BBC wont do that, it'll be a DEI appointment 12

Paninistickers Posted 11 November 2024 Posted 11 November 2024 Motd needs a radical overhaul. Gary leaving should give them the opportunity to revamp the whole concept. First step is to bring a boozy studio audience in. Like a working class question time.

Popular Post BarringtonHayles Posted 11 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 11 November 2024 A shame, he's basically the only pro Leicester voice in a sea of pundits who only care about the big six. Pretty sad that people are willing to turn on him for his fairly tame political views. He's a generic centrist dad who tweeted a few times asking people to stop using dehumanising language about immigrants, he's not reading the Communist Manifesto or singing Bella Ciao on BBC1 ffs. 17 1
