Exactly this, Mcateer adds nothing other than “works hard” ”nice lad”. I genuinely genuinely cant see how people think he should be starting.

Ayew and Mcateer out and Buonanotte and Mavididi in.

But .... but ..... he's a local lad who came through the academy ....

... which of course is no real substitute for actually being any good

Going up for this for my birthday weekend and visiting my daughter who's at Newcastle Uni.

Would love to be in smug mode after, whilst out in the Toon but doubt it.

You never know though and it's always a great night out anyway 🦊🤞🤞

As it stands I think McAteer is integral to the way Ruud sets us up. He needs a right winger who operates a bit of a wing back role and isn't purely attack minded. That's because he currently pushes Kristiansen high and Justin tucks in to form a back three with El Khannouss coming inside.

We could flip it around with Justin going high, Kristiansen dropping in and Mavididi giving us the width off the left. Lends itself better to Bounanotte being the RW that tucks in next to El Khannouss as the 10.

Nice one.

Will defo go to the  Quayside wetherspoons on Saturday,  as its really nice.

Probably go for a couple in the Strawberry on Sunday when it'll be quieter,  as its a nice pub with lots of footy memorabilia.

But mainly , I'll go where daughter suggests and I bet I'll be paying 😄

It’s embarrassing the way some people are talking about McAteer on here. We know that he’s not a player that’s going to make it to the elite level, but he’s played a more than adequate part in 4 premier league points in the past two games. He’s contributed effectively to a defensive set up that has tightened us up, and ultimately at this point if Ruud thinks him playing gives us the best chance of winning, who are we to argue?

This all day long. Some people simply want to post a statement for impact as opposed to a measured comment that acknowledges all the effort he has put in to his career and his contribution to the club over the last few seasons. You know who you are, be objective by all means but as one of our own please let’s keep it constructive

So what you're saying is, we need our winger that can't dribble and beat his man to play like as a full back so that our full back that can't dribble and beat his man can play like a winger?

Shame our full back who can dribble and beat his man is injured :(

Doesn't feel "Just north" when you've already done a 3 hour journey and get excited when you see Newcastle before realising you still have another 45 mins/hour to go lol

It is. It's a huge weight off of the shoulders.

It really reminded me of when Taylor was in charge and there was a period where I really didn't enjoy going to games

Son went to uni in Newcastle too.  Check out the Jesmond area stones throw from the centre metro links.  Lots of student bars and clubs etc top night out.  Quayside is good but for Newcastle expensive.

(for Newcastle lol).
