The only Italian defender i've known in my life time who can't defend and let's not talk about his passing abilities.

On Saturday he did his trademark perfect pass to an unmarked opposition while under no pressure.  I genuinely think he needs his eyes tested.

Controversial opinion but is keep him for time being. Nelson ACL, Souttar set for Sheffield United, TWB Sold to Stockport that leaves us with just Okoli, Faes and Gray. Faes should never ever play for us again, yes he has a big bozo gene but I can tolerate him more than Sideshow Bob

as much as we criticise the club there will be irons in the fire for new CB's. The Nelson injury has probably caught them a bit off guard although he was also a possibility to exit.

I feel like under McCarron early signs are there's more of a plan for building the squad and recent signings have come fairly out of the blue (which I prefer).

We may have a couple of weeks during August where we are stretched but hopefully by the end of the window the squad has enough cover.

Keep reading about being short for the next match but it's one match - the benefits of having committed players and balancing the books have far more longevity. We will sign players to replace Souttar and Okoli if they leave, especially with Nelson injured, by the end of the window.

I can’t remember us really being linked to central defensive players bar Souttar, which makes me think it wasn’t a priority. I just hope there’s a solid list.

The manager says it is a priority, we were also linked with a loan move for Hardy at Spurs. Also, lack of rumour doesn't mean we're not chasing players - given our current position, the media are less interested.

Really torn on it. Obviously we need to sell but we do need to play some defenders. I get the drain the swamp mentality but he does genuinely come across as a nice lad that the rest of the team loves. Surely to god he can do a job in League 1.

Obviously, if we get an £8m bid then we need to take it. I'm just saying that we'd be left with Faes and Gray. That would literally be it.

If Okoli is the centre half version Daka then Faes is the centre half version of Ayew and I know for a fact which i'd prefer.

I think it down to whether the player wants to stay.

If not right price get rid.

Zero chance we get 8m quid - people just have to watch him play once and lucky to get 8k - he is useless at Luke Thomas levels of useless

I reckon our scouts never watched him once before we bought him - YouTube highlights only - pathetic

Agree, think the first 6 or so games could be a bumpy ride, we need a bit of patience which certainly doesn’t come naturally to me.

Will probably be shouting ‘Martin out ‘ by 2.30pm Saturday.😂

Hope you're not but wouldn't be surprised! lol

I can see why fans are impatient, it's been horrible these past few seasons.

I think he was highly rated coming through and playing Italy under 21s. Just hasn't kicked on or developed, certainly not in a way to play at the pace the game is played in England.

He is currently our top scorer this season though... just need a couple more decent games and some of the interested sides to pick up an injury or two and we might be in business.

I'd like to see Kevon Gray given more of a chance if this goes through

He'll be off to Cheltenham on loan any minute now!

I'd much rather pocket some cash from him and souttar (two big lumps) and invest the cash in 2 or 3 decent centre halves for this level and champ who are ok with the ball at their feet and still have cash left kber. Maybe for the first game or two we might have to use him but he's one we defo should be looking to ship.

Was always unrealistic to keep Souttar, but I'll be surprised if Okoli actually goes. Apart from being young he's got absolutely nothing going for him from a development point of view.

Like others have said though, I'd genuinely rather keep him than entertain the idea of Faes getting another chance with us. I'd rather play a 2/10 player who's a bit of a shrinking violet than a 3/10 player who's highlight over the past four years was scoring against a team of children and unpaid volunteers in the second tier then cupping his ears at his own fans. Who he would likely face again in the third tier, because he's shit. Really showed us, didn't he?

Unironically Faes is arguably the best CB left at the club and the one most suited to Russell Martin's brand of football.

I don't think it's arguable.  Still, he can fxxk reet off!

And to think okoli was called up to the senior Italian men’s squad in 2024 🤣

There’s a reason Italy keep failing to qualify for tournaments … this isn’t the old Italy

€8m - I don't know where this £13m figure keeps getting banded about from.

€14m according to Transfermrkt, either way it was about ten times too much.

Yeah, well I don't trust transfer market - I'm pretty certain it was €8m - the add ons may have taken it to €14m, but I doubt he's achieved any of those.

Jordan Blackwell published in The Mercury it was £13m. As i've said, whatever the fee it was far too much.

if there is any genuine interest in him, then you jump all over it and get him out. His value and reputation will only continue to drop. I can't believe how bad he is. Get rid!
